The days of #networking only at events are long gone. Genuine connections can spark anytime, anywhere. ✅ Casual settings are just as good as formal settings. ✅ Open yourself up to those outside of your usual circle. ✅ Make the most of small interactions. Where’s an unexpected place you’ve successfully networked?

People need to go back to opening themselves to opportunities in their everyday lives...or positioning themselves in places where they can meet and interact with persons for networking. There are many persons on LinkedIn who may not be able to pay to attend networking opportunities with various organizations and companies. Some may not even have the attire as they are pressing for a beginning. Many limit themselves and are afraid to knock on doors because opening up themselves to persons these days - both ways- can be intimidating because of scammers and crime. Where are you hanging out? What social networks are you on? Does anyone in your network know about your skills and talents? We would be surprised to learn that our kindness to people on a daily basis can open up doors for us - you just never know who you may be interacting with? It is learning to be brave, persistent, step out of comfort zones and certainly step out of what you think you know or places that limit your growth. People are willing to help and partner etc, many are also wary of games and con artiste or those who do not want to work hard and put in the time for what they are pursuing. Attitude is Everything and so are confidence, respect and honesty.

👏 Networking is about building genuine connections—finding ways to help others and, in turn, allowing yourself to be helped.

My networking mentality is looking for ways to support and help others with their goals/aspirations - more often than not they return the favour. Although it is just nice to be nice and I find that fulfilling regardless 😊

Honestly I have mixed feelings about this one. I'm not sure I want to spend my daily interactions thinking about how I can get more leverage from people so that I can use it later in my career. I think most people would rather keep their out-of-work life free of that stress the same way they are happy enjoying sports, films or news without thinking about ways to curate the most motivational LinkedIn post the day after.

This is some good insight right here. I'll give it a try the first chance I get, though I may have to work on some things I won't mention here before making that attempt.

Absolutely! Genuine connections can happen in the most unexpected places. At Ortus Club, we’ve seen firsthand how impactful small interactions can be, whether it’s over a coffee or in a casual chat. It’s all about staying open to new conversations, no matter where they take place.

I’d say it happened at my son Lorenzo’s soccer field. During a game, I exchanged just a few words with another parent standing on the sidelines. What started as a casual chat quickly turned into a professional connection when we realized we were both working on building communities—just in completely different fields. That’s the beauty of networking: it’s not just about formal events or planned opportunities. It’s about creating meaningful connections in any setting, even in the most unexpected moments. All it takes is a little openness and curiosity.
