Day 15/30 of Academic Journals Study Livestock guarding dogs (LGDs) are important for minimizing livestock depredation. For many small-medium scale livestock farmers whose primary farm location is near forests or within residential areas, it’s common to wake up in the morning to see the remains of your livestock littered all over the place. My experiences with livestock depredation were always fresh each time they happened. From wildcats preying and killing our birds to dogs killing goats. This paper describes livestock-carnivore conflict and how LGDs can support farmers in reducing this. Although there are few concerns about using dogs to wade off carnivores such as changes in carnivore behavior, the researchers found that using local dogs drastically reduced the number of carnivores attacks in the study area in Botswana. From my personal experience, I also used my dogs to wade off wild cats to protect my livestock and it helped. #HumanWildlifeConflict #LivestockProtectionDogs #HumanWildlifeInteraction

There are numerous factors which contribute to the low productivity of animal production countries. Also there is a one sided development most developing countries have significantly improved their breeds and numbers of livestock. #GeneralAgriculture

Trees are hugely important on farms and can have multiple uses. This fascinating @soilassociationscotland webinar discussed how #treehay can be a valuable way to supplement winter forage and support livestock nutrition and welfare. There could be practical synergies with #Bioserviceareas providing #perennialgreenmanures to fertilise crops and fodder and medication for livestock. Some of the species discussed are ones we are interested in such as gorse and broom. Alder is often used for browse/tree hay, though its palatability is lower than some, it grows well in wet areas. https://lnkd.in/ePKg5jsA

Redefining the agricultural sector for efficient and value-driven in enhancing sustainable economic growth in Nigeria
Dairy Farming, AgriPreneur, Public Policy Subject Matter Expert, Business Strategist, Solutions Architect, Financial Analyst, Project Manager
I think it's important that we pause and reflect on the 'why' of actions taken, particularly now that the government has put the spotlight on Livestock. Personally, I believe the attention to Livestock aims to better our economy and support the growth of the nation with a more targeted approach. There's so much more to Livestock than cattle and unpacking it can be herculean. Allah ya taimakemu 🙏🏽 #AminuNyako #MinistryOfLivestock #LivestockReforms #ABetterNigeria
