Ockam just changed the game. ❌ No more Public APIs. ❌ No more Private Link. Connect to Snowflake in a whole new (super secure, trivially simple) way.

Short video about a typical Field Level Data Protection use case in my book (chapter 5). Thanks Apress for publishing! While the build is performed in #GoogleCloud using #BigQuery the use case is generic, and I have led similar implementations in #AWS and #Azure in the past. https://a.co/d/7mpKOBk #FieldLevelProtection #FieldLevelEncryption #DataLossPrevention #DLP #BigQuery #GoogleCloud

Are you always finding yourself blocked? Here are examples of ways of unblocking yourself: 0. You don't have access to the customer environment? Deploy to your own. We do this when we are waiting for a customer subscription, we disable any of the expensive parts of the deployment such as Web Application Firewall and switch to use free tiers where possible. 1. Something isn't working? Switch to a different approach. It can be tempting to try and try to get something working and fall into the sunk cost fallacy. Don't be afraid to change your approach if needed. For example we recently have been working with databricks, and we were having all sorts of issues connecting to the volumes. It transpires that we determined the issue was due to a port being blocked, but whilst waiting for that to be unblocked, we decide to move away from volumes and use an alternative in the meantime. 2. You're spending all your time debating whether something is even possible? Do a proof of concept. This is fundamentally one of the best ways to prove whether or not you can do something. Instead of spending our refinements arguing about whether or not something possible, we will spend time diagramming our flow or researching how we could do it and then determining whether it's worth doing a proof of concept. 3. There's a bug in the open source library you use? Fix the bug. Raise the issue, look at the library and figure out where the bug is, and send in a PR stating what the issue is with the proposed resolution. This is a great way to help contribute to open source and also get yourself unstuck. Stop falling into the trap of being stuck, be pragmatic and get unstuck 🙏🙌 __________________________________________ P.S, if you liked this post, consider subscribing to my newsletter where I talk all about navigating tech: https://lnkd.in/ee_SJA7X

Snowflake, the cloud-based data platform, has recently introduced a new feature that has caughtmy eye. This feature allows saving secrets as an object as part of the External API Authentication feature. But what are these secrets, and how do we use them? In case you're not familiar, Snowflake Secrets are a way to securely store and manage sensitive information, such as database credentials, API keys, and tokens. With this new feature, it is now possible to save them as an object, making it easier to manage and maintain them. If you're interested in learning more about Snowflake Secrets and how to use them, check out my latest blog post on the topic. The article provides a comprehensive overview of what Secrets are, how to use them, and how they can be used with External API Authentication. Don't miss out on this neat new feature and the added security it brings to your data management. Proud to announce Dataform2Looker, an open-source CLI tool that we developed together with my amazing colleagues Edgar Ochoa, Alexandros Kyrloglou and Arturo Voltattorni from Devoteam. The tool is designed to generate LookML view files from Dataform models, tightly coupling LookML code generation with Data Pipelines. The tool is open source, so if you wanna have a meaningful contribution within Google ecosystem and beyond, we’re waiting for your Pull Requests! Also, check out the issues page if you want some ideas on where to start from. In case of any questions, just ping me and let’s have a chat.
