Today we celebrate Juneteenth. 🫶 Also known as “Freedom Day” and “Emancipation Day,” Juneteenth marks a pivotal day – the arrival of Union General Gordon Granger in Texas in 1865, finally bringing the news of freedom to enslaved people there. Though the Emancipation Proclamation came earlier, Texas’ remote location delayed its impact. It wouldn’t be for another six months that slavery in the United States would be formally abolished with the ratification of the 13th Amendment. While freedom wasn’t instant across the nation, Juneteenth celebrates that pivotal moment in Texas and the ongoing fight for equality. • • • • #camposhomesnj #equality #juneteenth #juneteenthcelebration #realtor #realestate #realtorlife #camdencounty #gloucestercounty #burlingtoncounty #southjerseyrealtor #njrealtor #kellerwilliamsrealty #kellerwilliamsrealtor #newjerseyrealestate #newjerseyrealtor

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 became law 60 years ago today, but Black Americans still trail White Americans in economic and social equality, National Urban League says. The League’s 2024 Equality Index, which measures social and economic status of African Americans relative to Whites, is at 75.7. At full equality, the index would be 100. There is no question the Civil Rights Act has brought progress, but economic empowerment is key to parity. The National Urban League’s 2024 State of Black America is an insightful report that analyzes the Civil Rights Act’s impact on Black America. https://bit.ly/3W2QMX9 #civilrightsact #civilrights #democracy #equality

Today we commemorate #Juneteenth, which marks the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce that the Civil War had ended and that all enslaved people were free — two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. While slavery was abolished, we know that racism and inequalities persist to this day. Juneteenth is a powerful reminder of the struggle for freedom, equality, and human rights. At WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, we believe businesses have an important role to play in reducing inequality and generating inclusive growth that can be enjoyed by all. Through our work with The Business Commission to Tackle Inequality, we are working to build a more just and equitable world through a shared focus on action, accountability, and ambition. Addressing inequality is both our responsibility and an opportunity for positive change. On this Juneteenth, we recommit ourselves to being allies and agents of positive change. We continue striving for a world of dignity, respect, and opportunity for all people, regardless of race. Join us in reflecting on our progress and renewing our dedication to justice, anti-racism efforts, and achieving equity. Together, we can create a more sustainable and equitable future where all can thrive.

Great way to close out the day of plenary sessions with an insightful and thought-provoking session exploring Latinos and the future of voting and civil rights, including how political illiteracy, misinformation, and voter suppression impact minority participation at the ballot box. A huge thank you to Domingo Garcia, National President of LULAC, Gaby Pacheco, President and CEO TheDream.US, Thomas A. Saenz, President and General Counsel of MALDEF - Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Alphonso David, President & CEO of the Global Black Economic Forum, and Max Sevillia, Senior Vice President of National Affairs Anti-Defamation League, for the in-depth discussion on the challenges and opportunities facing Latino voters in 2024. "Voting rights and civil rights are el corazón de LULAC," stated LULAC National President Domingo Garcia. "We’re looking to break down all the silos and barriers that exist in reaching financial success for black and brown communities, added Alphonso David. "It is important for us to understand and harness our political power." As we prepare for this year’s election, these insights will be critical in supporting efforts that ensure that every Latino has the information and access required to participate fully in our democracy. #VotingRights #CivilRights #Democracy2024 #LatinoVoices #LULAC24

As we observe Constitution Week, we not only reflect on the ideals of justice, liberty, and equality that form the foundation of our nation but also recognize the pressing need to extend these rights equitably to all communities. The reality is that Black, Brown, and BIPOC populations have historically been excluded from the full promise of these principles. The Constitution is a living document, and its true power is realized when we harness it to advance equity and ensure that every voice, particularly those from marginalized communities, is heard and protected. #ConstitutionWeek #JusticeForAll #BuildBackBlack #EquityInLaw #FMSGlobalStrategies #WBBA
