Something very important is missing from the training most people receive as birth pros… Decades of experience in the birthing industry have proven that unfortunately, it’s not always enough to simply ‘hold space’ for your clients. You need to understand the physiology and biomechanics of pregnancy and birth to truly serve your clients. In doing this YOU can make a monumental difference to how families experience their journey into parenthood. No matter your birth or perinatal profession, you are part of an ecosystem where each consultation or recommendation has a direct impact on the experiences and outcomes of your clients. That’s why it’s so important to have cutting edge tools and knowledge that will generate immediate, physical results during birth. Don’t miss your once a year chance to join the BRM® Professional Training – this is BRM®’s flagship training program designed exclusively for perinatal and birth pros. Doors are now open to register for the 2024 Cohort (with early bird pricing now activated!). In this 5-month training, you will learn how to: ✅ Know what positions to suggest to encourage progress—delaying or even eliminating the need for medical intervention. ✅ Be clear on what will work best for your client’s unique body (and why) to decrease pushing time and likelihood of injury. ✅ Be prepared with specific hands-on tools to encourage progress and address delays, plus certainty on when, why and how to use them! ✅ Confidently advocate for the birth your client wants. The BRM® Professional Training will set you apart. It’s the missing piece that most birth pros just don’t have yet. We truly believe that this is the way everyone will be training the pregnant body in 10 years. Ready to join us? https://lnkd.in/eCWUQEtm DM for a coupon to save even more!

Nothing rocked my world more than becoming a mom. At the time, I remember wondering why no one had warned me. Perhaps surprisingly it wasn't the physical changes, those I knew to expect. It was the identity shift, the uncertainty and the weight of responsibility that came after childbirth. Today on Maternal Health Awareness day, I won't pepper you with a string of bleak stats, but I will say that for new moms the struggle is often one that others can't see or really understand. Moms (especially Black and Indigenous women and those without access to care) are not getting the support they need, including mental health support. Emagine Solutions Technology founder Courtney Williams is doing something to help. Not only has she created The Journey Pregnancy app, which offers live coaching during and after pregnancy, but today Courtney's team is releasing a report called "What Comes After" with tips on how apps can better serve women's needs, including postpartum. (Hint: it's not just about the baby in those first few weeks.) To request the full report reach out to whatcomesafter@emagineest.com or comment below.
Pregnancy technologies can and must do better. They can save lives. Listening to women is how we start. When we founded Emagine Solutions Technology and created The Journey Pregnancy app, it wasn't just because of the challenges I faced in my own pregnancy. It was because I was tired of pregnant women not getting the support they need – casualties of a growing maternal mortality crisis. I refused to believe that technology could offer a solution for every minor discomfort, but not for something as important as this. Since those early days, I've talked to hundreds of women about their own experiences within an overtaxed healthcare system. Women who have faced discrimination, hours-long trips for prenatal care, horrible birth experiences and more. Then, once they've given birth, they are often on their own to deal with postpartum mental and physical health challenges, not to mention economic hardships and lack of childcare. Too few technologies and apps serve those postpartum needs -- instead offering outdated info and cute diversions. Because of these failures, the women I talked to quit pregnancy apps at a time when they probably needed them the most. Today, on Maternal Health Awareness Day, we're releasing the culmination of my conversations with those women: "What Comes After". It's a report that shares the stories of women abandoned by the healthcare system, with their thoughts on how apps can become a better resource. Thanks to National Science Foundation (NSF) for guidance and grant resources as well as everyone who helped and participated, especially Dr. Sharon Thompson and the team at Central Phoenix Obstetrics and Gynecology for their unwavering commitment to research and innovation in women's health. We believe no woman should lose her life during pregnancy or childbirth. However, many women die after giving birth during the postpartum period—the time following delivery. 🟧 What Causes This? According to the World Health Organization (WHO), most maternal deaths happen because of complications during and after pregnancy and childbirth. These complications cause nearly 75% of all maternal deaths. 🌺 How Can Women Stay Safe After Giving Birth? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests these steps to reduce risks after delivery: ☄️ Start care early: Register at a good hospital or clinic as soon as you know you're pregnant. ☄️ Attend regular checkups: Keep up with appointments during pregnancy. ☄️ Go for postpartum checkups: After delivery, these visits help identify and treat problems early. #Exciting News! We’re hosting a 3-day webinar series about women’s health. One session will focus on postpartum care, helping women learn how to stay healthy and prevent complications after giving birth. Watch out for more details soon! If this post has been helpful, please like, share your thoughts, and repost so others can benefit. 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡! In any situation that arises regarding your pregnancy, birthing, postpartum, and with your baby’s care, you are always in charge! As the parent(s) you are responsible for making the all-important decisions that will affect your health and that of your baby. It is important for you to know that no one can ever force you to do anything you feel uncomfortable with, no matter what the circumstances are. During birth, you have the legal right to information, informed consent and refusal, respect for your choices and preferences. 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐘𝐨𝐮 … And they don’t need to! Doctors, nurses and midwives have special training and are taking care of their own agendas while doing what they feel is best. The role of the medical care provider is to contribute input to help each person decide what is best for their own family. You, as the consumer, make all of the decisions, and no one “allows” you to do anything. You have the right to tell them how you will give birth and what choices *you* are comfortable with, since the medical staff is working for you. There are medical (legal) protocols that dictate how medical care providers may practice within a hospital setting. These often come into play when hospital staff want to “manage” birth. Common birthing procedures may be presented as “mandatory policies” by staff. Remember, it is still always your choice whether to consent or to refuse any “suggested” procedure or intervention. Ask for all the information you need to make an informed decision. Trust that the decisions and choices you make are the right ones for you and your baby. #informeddecision #informedrefusal #autonomy #birthsupport

👩⚕️ 💬 𝑊𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑 𝑖𝑡 𝑏𝑒 𝑜𝑘𝑎𝑦 𝑖𝑓 𝑤𝑒 𝑡𝑎𝑙𝑘𝑒𝑑 𝑎 𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑡𝑙𝑒 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑤𝑒𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑐𝑒𝑟𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑔𝑛𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑦? Variations of this question are often highlighted in international guidelines as best practice when healthcare professionals find it relevant to discuss weight with a patient in a clinical setting. The idea of 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 is well-intentioned and developed to mitigate weight stigma, but (as far as we know) no research has been conducted on how patients experience this phrasing. That is, until now! The talented Sofie Gyrup and Anne-Sofie Kortegaard Kristensen have changed that. In their master’s thesis, they explored the experience of midwives and pregnant women with high body weight in asking permission to discuss weight, and their work has now been published in BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth. Congratulations and thank you for trusting me to supervise you through the process The article highlights: ⚠️ The risk and ambivalence experienced by women with a personal history of weight struggles. 💬 The nuanced dynamics of midwives seeking permission to address weight, which women often did not perceive as beneficial for meaningful dialogue; and ⚖️ The dual potential of such discussions to foster trust and individual recognition or provoke guilt and self-doubt.
