This is going to be a long post, with some life updates. Since 2013 I joined Startup Grind, after reflecting on how startup founders (at the moment I was launching with my 9th company, second startup) face very particular situations, and how talking, connecting and building community with other founders, becomes the only outlet and support system. Today, 11 years later I have decided to step down, after holding many responsibilities, and achieving many things, like, being the first country manager, regional manager, and organizing the first regional conference. But to date my proudest moment was hosting the first Startup Conference in the world with 70% women speakers, without being a gender focus event. In this journey, as most in life, the best part is always the people that surrounds you. First of all, Derek Andersen who have became a friend, and his entire family a little part of my family, can't thank you enough for the endless chats, discussions, challenges and support. Through this decade I met instrumental people in my life, first my friend and life mentor, michael abbott, you have teach me so much, in the most kindest way possible, without knowing. I met a endless list of mentors, teachers, and of course two of my biggest influences in business and life: Clayton Christensen Institute & Vinod Khosla And of course, my dear, dear friend, RIP, Bob Dorf. Whats next? I believe in the power of community, but also in adding as much value as possible by design. I started 4Founders Forum in 2017, and today is my representation of how a high quality Forum can create an on demand community based on founders series A and B. We are making this community global, this year, we launched Colombia, Argentina, Brazil + Mexico. Next years we are going to the US, Spain and maybe a couple of surprises on top of that as part of the new fund. Also, and most importante, I am way excited about starting DSV10 - Dissent Ventures with my dear partner Lina Margarita Peña Gomez , I am confident that we will trailblaze for a new approach to Venture Capital, makes me feel like a founder tackling VC. The potential to build a VC 2.0 model seems a good challenge for the next decade. Community wise, I am always happy to help! closing cycles is life's way of showing us that our grow is happening :)
Your journey with Startup Grind is truly inspiring! 🌟 What key lessons have you learned about building community that you'll carry into DSV10? On a different note, I'd be happy to connect—please send me a request!
I was a pleasure to meet you. To have your support to start the Startup Grind in Colombia. Hope we find each other in your future journey. Thanks Pablo.
Well done for everything you’ve achieved Pablo Lascurain !!
Pablo - very grateful for the opportunity to get to work together for the past decade! You have built something very special and I was a witness. From local gatherings, to conferences, to many dozens/hundred hours of interviews with some of the world's best builders, I'm super proud to have watched and seen what you and your team built and created. Excited for the next Chapter! Thank you!
