🌳As part of the Climate Solutions Catalyst (CSC) (https://lnkd.in/etfXJHe9) at Undaunted: Tackling climate change with innovation we are aiming to discover climate solutions from scientific literature. Our hypothesis is that these climate innovations exist but need to be unearthed. 🎉 That's why we are happy to present our preprint "Towards unearthing neglected climate innovations from scientific literature using Large Language Models" in the Latinx in AI (LXAI) workshop at NeurIPS 2024. In this paper, we've: 📃Collected ~100k relevant papers from OpenAlex ❔Designed 7 climate/market related questions to ask human evaluators and LLMs about these papers. 🚀Automated a process for the LLM to read 1000s of abstracts. 🔍Discovered some exciting (and possibly neglected) solutions and fields. This is definitely not our final solution, but a step towards a more complex workflow that'll allow entrepreneurs, investors and scientists to connect, discover and push forward new climate innovations. For the past few months, over at The Engine Room we have been working on a research project aimed at contributing to stronger information ecosystems in Latin America and the Caribbean. Olivia and I shared some of what we've been thinking about in this new article for Branch Magazine 🌳 As we make our way through the project, one key message stands out: although tech is definitely an important part of how we create better information ecosystems, it’s not the whole story. In the link below, we share some brilliant initiatives who are working to ensure people have information they need, to create conversations about climate and environmental justice with their communities, and to expose environmental and climate injustices. Gathering these examples is our way of inviting readers to look beyond solutions that are exclusively focused on tech and instead explore how we can be doing more to support the work of those who are strengthening information ecosystems like they are: messy, complex, human. https://lnkd.in/e7vBuZqt
