Where sustainability was once viewed as a peripheral corporate social responsibility initiative, it has evolved into a core business imperative. Companies are recognizing that incremental changes and traditional ESG approaches are insufficient to address current climate challenges. Three key insights emerge: First, climate resilience requires comprehensive business transformation rather than isolated sustainability programs. Second, companies must leverage their entire operational capabilities - from supply chains to technology infrastructure - rather than relying solely on philanthropic efforts. Third, the intersection of profitability and climate action is increasingly evident, with significant market opportunities emerging in climate-adaptive solutions. The panel highlights how this strategic shift demands new forms of leadership, emphasizing the importance of cross-sector partnerships, data-driven decision making, and the integration of climate considerations into core business strategy. In the aftermath of the election to the European Parliament and during the June United Nations Climate Meetings in Bonn we dived into see if #Nordic companies ready for #CSRD and aligned with The European Green Deal leading the transition? Open Sustainability Index, in partnership with We Don't Have Time, released a special report yesterday on CSRD-readiness, focusing on climate reporting and #science based targets of the Nasdaq @OMX Nordic 120 companies. Some of our findings: ➜ One-third of the companies are well-prepared for #CSRD requirements, with complete and transparent Scope 1-3 GHG emission reporting. ➜ 48.5% of companies report on all three scopes, but 16% need to improve their Scope 3 category disclosure. ➜ 68% have set science-based targets through Science Based Targets initiative; however, only 47% aim for #NetZero by 2050, and 17% have a specific Net Zero target year. ➜ Companies with thorough emission reporting currently outperform in the stock market, yielding a 28% higher return over the past 12 months. ➜ The financial sector lags, with only 24% reporting #investment emissions and 12% setting science-based targets. And why is this important? First of all: We must take urgent climate action, a message that is getting stronger and louder for every day. Progress need to be made within the coming couple of years. On every 5th of June, I support most for a lifelong learning about environmental management for sustainable development but, more than ever, I am now calling out to take climate actions everyone’s agenda and accountability. I was fortunately involved and responsible for the leadership decisions in diversified industries where have taught and groomed me to be an #EarthAdvocate. Same as other peers and my supervisors, we stand on specific sides calling for changes, an impactful ones, including the #EnergyTransition, #GreenFinance, #NetZeroEmission, #LowCarbonFootprint, to name some, that needs tangible improvements, practical strategies and longer-term solutions. It is never enough. This year’s World Environment Day, to take part in an even more crucial stage before 2030 which was targeted to lower the global temperature rising by 1.5 degrees, I stand with the #NeutralGround, standing with the academic community, to accelerate the best practices sharing, collaboration & engagement and, particularly, grow the “climate knowledge, digitalized technology with unwavering sustainability purposes”. I have positive thoughts and hope that my voice will play its part, not only to protect the planet, but also to gather the commitments from all to urgently recover the natural resources for every life’s today and tomorrow.
