Great piece! Professor Rob Wilson's analysis of Labour's proposed ticket resale reforms highlights potential detrimental impacts on the sports industry. While the proposed reforms may be laudable from an affordability standpoint, they could undermine revenue models, create underground black markets, and hinder venue sales. This article’s economic arguments deserve serious consideration as policymakers weigh the pros and cons, prompting further dialogue on achieving a balanced, modernized ticketing model. #tickets #labour #starmer #supply #demand #appliedeconomics #sportbiz

SIGN OF THE TIMES I've created a snapshot of Premier League shirt sponsors for the 2023/24 season and how those same clubs compared to the first season of the Premier League (1992/93) Not all of this season's Premier League teams would have been in the top tier of the competition at its inception, but I thought it would make a good reference point for how sponsors and the industries have evolved in just over 30 years. If you take the clubs out of the equation, here are the main findings: ⚽ No Gambling Sponsors in 1992/93 - Now 40% of Premier League clubs ⚽ Alcohol Sponsorship at 20% in 1992/93 - Now 0% ⚽ A greater concentration of industry in current times ⚽ Financial Services are now a considerable factor when it comes to shirt sponsorships ⚽ Only 1 Airline sponsor (not the same airline) has carried through as a like-for-like in 30 years ⚽ Now a huge landscape change, but with Gambling soon to be outlawed on Premier League shirts. Which industry will fill the void?

Manchester City’s current legal tussle with the Premier League over alleged financial rule breaches has all eyes on their sponsorship deals. They're accused of inflating sponsorship revenues to meet Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, which are meant to keep clubs from spending recklessly. and how in the Etihad Airways does this relate to marketing? Manchester City’s brand, built on global appeal and commercial success, could take a massive hit with the outcome of this case. Trust is everything, and this case shows how quickly it can be jeopardized. For marketers, the lesson is clear. Transparency wins. In the same vein so too authenticity. No wonder they go hand in hand. The Premier League winners vs THE LITERAL LEAGUE shows us that legal woes can shake even the mightiest brands, affecting fan loyalty and sponsor confidence. This situation will likely redefine sponsorship norms in sports, emphasizing that maintaining brand trust through transparency and compliance is as crucial as the marketing campaigns that drive these partnerships. Thoughts? let's talk 👇 #Marketing #SportsMarketing #BrandManagement #Sponsorship #Transparency #Compliance #Football

Dynamic Pricing? Or Supply & Demand pricing? Now it’s happening in football, soon… 🧐 La Liga club Valencia is set to introduce 'dynamic pricing' for tickets after Oasis courted controversy for a similar action last week. Fans of the Manchester City supporting band were outraged last week after they spent hours in queues for tickets that were at least double the price advertised when eventually allowed onto the website. Ticketmaster explained this process as 'dynamic pricing' which occurs when an event is particularly popular. This process is now being investigated by a watchdog. However, the 'dynamic pricing' saga has not gone away with Valencia announcing they would be introducing it for their fixtures with the 'support and technology of La Liga'. In a statement, they explained: "One of the new features of the 2024-25 season will be the implementation of dynamic pricing for ticket purchases. Following the global trend in shows, sporting events and entertainment, Valencia CF will join this practice, which has the support and technology of La Liga. "Tickets will therefore go on sale at a base price, which could increase as the days go by, always subject to various parameters such as the occupancy of the stadium area and the proximity of the date, among others. Buying your tickets early will ensure you get the best price! "Plan ahead and get your tickets in the best area and at the best price. Prices can be viewed online.” Could it happen in the supermarket? The emptier the shelves, the more expensive the product…. 🤯 It’s just a question, or two…..😜 #priceincreasing #pricegouging 🤔

Recent data from CGA’s Trading Index highlights the remarkable impact England fixtures have had on our hospitality industry, with an average year-on-year sales boost in pubs of 21% across Great Britain. Notably, the final group game against Slovenia saw a staggering 33% increase in sales! 🏆 This surge in activity, most notably a 40% increase in drink sales on matchdays, underscores the significant role that sports play in uniting us and supporting our local businesses. Kate Nicholls, Chief Executive of UKHospitality, stated, “We’re seeing huge demand from fans to cheer on England from the pub, delivering a massive boost for the nation’s pubs and bars.” Beyond the economic benefits, these gatherings foster a sense of community, bringing friends, families, and neighbours together to share in the excitement. The pub environment offers an atmosphere that enhances the matchday experience - outside of the stadium itself - bringing people together in their local community to support something they are passionate about. Whilst the Euro's may be over, what we encourage is for publicans to look at the sporting calendar and to identify the fixtures that will unite the community and to leverage this in a way that brings people into the pub. We encourage you to show your support for sporting events at your venues and to help people come together to celebrate the spirit of sport that unites us all. Doing so benefits you and the community. #Hospitality #SportsCommunity #EnglandFootball #CommunitySpirit #HospitalityTechnology #UKHospitality #OOLIO #swiftpos
