The journey to the boardroom is long & it is just as much an interview with you as it is for you with them - don’t underestimate the importance of finding a mutual fit. 2. Think about the intersection of: 1) your skills, 2) areas of interest / passion (ex. industry) and 3) gaps in oversight / guidance on the board. The nexus of these things is the sweet spot of understanding your value to that specific board - tailor your pitch accordingly. 3. Public vs private board service - it differs greatly and if you’re just beginning your journey to the boardroom, a private company board opportunity is an excellent first step. Think about how your experience might be uniquely valuable to whatever stage the company is at (Series A, B, C, pre-IPO) - and feel confident that the CEO will call you for guidance on those particular challenges.

🌟 It's a surreal journey! 🌟 I am thrilled to share that my team and I have won 1st place in Net Impact Consulting Competition in its 20th anniversary 🎉 Working with the incredible nonprofit organization, PLUS ME Project we proposed a prioritization matrix to help them refine strategies for securing funding and building strong partnerships. 💡 Reflecting on this experience, I feel so fortunate to have been part of such an amazing team: Valerie Hirschberg, M.Ed, Kenneth H., Rita Manukyan and Michelle Fan. We prioritized aligning everyone’s preferences and expectations before making decisions. Each of us took ownership of our roles, aced our parts, and offered support to one another whenever needed. My Key Takeaways: 1️⃣ Sympathy and Support: As FEMBAs with full-time jobs, coordinating meetings and discussions wasn’t easy, but we made it happen—staying committed to our weekly group meetings, and client meetings and delivering on our promises. Individual full commitment secured our win. 2️⃣ Teach Fishing, Not Just Offer Fish: Inspired by advice from our Fellow advisor Devon Dickau, we designed a dynamic and customizable solution that empowers the client long-term. Instead of a one-time fix, we focused on maximizing sustainable impact, giving Plus Me Project the tools to adapt and grow beyond this project. This journey has reinforced my belief in the power of collaboration, adaptability, and empathy—principles that are just as important in consulting as in any professional setting. But more importantly, it was energizing and validating. -- I was in the middle of the most hellish year of the financial rescue work I was doing not only for our own clients, but for all of their friends and my bookkeeping colleagues and on my blog, just to try to keep small businesses from imploding (which would allow chains to move in and completely reshape the landscape of our communities). And it was stressful and exhausting and I had no way of knowing whether it was going to make a difference in the end or not. Receiving this award -- being recognized for what I was doing, and going through (I certainly am aware I was not the only one, but I only know how to tell my own story), and feeling SEEN... it definitely put some gas in the tank that was sorely needed at the time. Wrapped 💫 We closed the four-week Create Growth: Female Founders Coaching Programme yesterday for GM Business Growth Hub. Our brief? Help these amazing business women build more confidence and resilience. What a four weeks it’s been: 💫 An in-person workshop to start to uncover the concrete walls present in our businesses and personal lives 💫 An online deep dive into self limiting beliefs, followed by observed coaching sessions 💫 Online again, this time looking at evidence stacking for confidence and more observed coaching 💫 Wrapped with a final in-person workshop and a vision boarding session to let the community strengthen their bonds (which are as strong as they are!) and some incredible reflections. We’ll share some of the incredible feedback soon. But for now, thank you GM Business Growth Hub for trusting us with your first female founders programme. We can’t wait to see where they go next 🙏
