SWE job growth declined for the first time since 2000 The SWE market has had tremendous growth. Though now is the first time in two decades we’re seeing shrinkage in the number of job openings. Here’s Why You’ve Been Getting Rejected 👇 In October, ClanX received 3,667 applications, but only 337 qualified to move forward. Standing out in this pool requires a smarter approach. Instead of: 1. Randomly applying to every job you see. 2. Not tweaking your application to fit the role. 3. Not sharing your most updated resume. Try this: 1. Apply selectively to roles that truly match your skills and experience. 2. Customize your application to highlight relevant achievements. 3. Ensure your resume is up-to-date with your latest skills and projects. A targeted approach beats a generic one every time. P.S: We're hiring engineers, checkout → https://lnkd.in/dziTWp4t

2 Years Ago Today I Quit My Job From first hearing about 'Software Engineering' in my freshman year of college, I INSTANTLY knew it was my dream job. In fact, I went into college expecting to be a 'Chemical Engineer', but it was not long before I changed my major over and shifted my whole course plan. But 2 years ago, 5 years into my software engineering career, I quit my job to be a full time 'Influencer' (I prefer 'Content Creator'). And while there are parts of it that I miss: - The amazing people I got to work with every day - The puzzles of programming - The managing of others, watching them learn & grow It's the best decision I've ever made in my life. Period. - EVERY day I wake up excited to be my own boss. Seriously, I get shocked by this reality every single day. - My time is FULLY managed by me, and nobody else. - The AMOUNT to learn in the Creator world is never-ending. - The INCREDIBLE opportunities for me are jaw-dropping to younger-me. - The AMBITION behind all of my friends in the space pushes me even harder. - My effort is DIRECTLY rewarded with a growing business. - I get to EMPLOY (as contractors) multiple people to help THEM build the lifestyle they want. And I know things are JUST getting started for Favorite Finds and it's future.

No advice in this post. Just a quick reminder of my most popular offering - working 1-on-1 with people to achieve their career goals in tech. "Rory" started our first call with the question, should I go for promotion at my current company or go on the job hunt? It was a great jumping off point to deeper conversations filled with challenging questions, a-ha moments, insights based on my experience, shaping personal and career goals, and setting a concrete strategy to achieve them. We got tactical quickly and focused on the job search and interview preparation. A ton of hard work later, and (yay!) we found ourselves discussing which of the 3 offers for Senior and Staff Software Engineer to accept. If you're at a critical decision point in your tech career, I'd love to hear from you.

Every little piece of work you did in your career journey matters. It adds an experience. You may not recognize because it might be minor w.r.t your main work. Believe me, pay attention to these minor tasks and experiences. Remember it, write it down, and show it in the interview. It tremendously differentiate between candidates with the same job title. Imagine a two SW developers with exactly the same skills. However, one of them built a ML model just once to solve a problem ... etc. Who would you choose?

As a software engineer, you will grow 3x faster when you realize the people smarter or doing better than you are not a threat. They’re not your competition. They’re not in a race with you. They’re not your enemy. I understand it’s easy to get competitive because everything feels that way as a job seeker, but collaborating is much better. It is a blessing to have talented people around you who have spent time honing their craft, knowledge, and skills. They can be someone senior, on your team, or worldwide. Talk to them, build relationships, learn, and get inspired by them. You’ll thank yourself :) -- P.S:🚩 If you need help with: - DSA & System Design - Interview Preparation - Mock interviews Book a 1:1 Call With Me.

1moI definitely did not expect the effects of ChatGPT to be so immediate on SWE jobs. A lagging drop and slow decline is what I would've expected. Instead it's a quick drop and quick reversion.
