Score inflation on B2B review sites has become a hot topic. Some refer to it as the “4.7 effect”, where scores on some sites converge at that level limiting differentiation between products. The primary reason for score inflation is vendors solely asking confirmed positive NPS customers to write reviews, without the review sites sufficiently moderating this effect. A secondary effect now appears to be the escalating presence of AI driven (fraudulent) reviews. Originality.ai, an AI checker (among other things) recently published evaluations of the AI generated review rate on the three major B2B review sites, Capterra, G2 and TrustRadius. I'm proud that TrustRadius is doing 2.5-3x better at managing this challenge, though we can and will do more. Interestingly, they found that positive reviews had a much higher likelihood to be AI generated than negative ones. Here's the data: From Nov / Dec 2022 - Sept 2023 Capterra * 33.6% of reviews published were identified as AI based. * Ratings of 4 or 5/5 are 2.1x more likely to be AI generated than ratings 3 or lower. G2 * 25.6% of reviews published were identified as AI based * Ratings of 4 or 5/5 were 1.7x more likely to be AI generated than ratings 3 or lower TrustRadius *10.5% of reviews published were identified as AI based * Ratings of 8, 9, 10/10 were 1.7x more likely to be AI generated than those 1-3/10. #customerreviews #customeradvocacy #reviewsites #scores #b2bmarketing #buyerintelligence See links to full reports in comments.
