Today the Tech Coalition hosted a global multi-stakeholder forum on combating the financial sextortion of children. The virtual half-day event was a follow up to our June 2023 forum on the same topic. Building on last year’s gathering, this forum provided an opportunity for representatives of the tech industry, financial sector, global law enforcement, civil society, academia, and governments to provide updates on the current status of this heinous crime and progress in responding since June 2023. The event was attended by more than 150 people, with representatives from 20 Tech Coalition member companies. We are grateful for everyone who participated in the event. We look forward to the work to come in areas such as: - Facilitating signal sharing through Lantern, with a focus on financial institutions. - Improving the actionability of financial sextortion cases reported to NCMEC. - Raising awareness of financial sextortion. - Sharing industry good practices. Thank you to our speakers from: Snap Inc., Meta, TikTok, PayPal, Western Union, National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police | Gendarmerie royale du Canada, the Cote d’Ivoire Ministry of the Interior and Security, Nigeria's NATIONAL AGENCY FOR THE PROHIBITION OF TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS (NAPTIP), the Department of Justice - Republic of the Philippines , the Philippines National Police, and Cyber Security Experts Association of Nigeria (CSEAN). Many question the intensity of my stance on government overreach, suggesting I might be exaggerating the possibility of our own governments committing acts that seem almost inconceivable against their citizens. Yet, the revelation of government agencies surveilling Americans, treating them almost like domestic terrorists based on their political, medical, and religious beliefs, is a stark reminder of the dangers we face. It underscores the imperative to resist the centralisation of our data. Such centralisation not only risks our privacy but also sets a perilous precedent for government overreach and abuse. It's a call to action for all of us to champion decentralisation and safeguard our civil liberties. The Zero Knowledge Decentralised Identity protocol (.zkdid™) presents a solution that not only protects our privacy but can also help reduce cybercrime and increase trust online. We must not settle for less. In an era burgeoning with AI advancements, it's critical that we do not relinquish control of our digital identities to entities that may not always prioritise our best interests. History has shown that while intentions may start benevolently, the centralisation of identity systems and data under governmental control can swiftly turn precarious. Once in place, it requires little for such systems to pivot, turning the public's unique attributes into targets for scrutiny based on their beliefs. Let's advocate for a future where our digital and real-world identities remain securely in our hands, fostering a society where trust and privacy thrive. We are running out of time. Don't believe me, look at this document released yesterday, its outrageous 👇 https://lnkd.in/emuVAVsH

This year’s TIP Report urges multi-stakeholder collaboration on technology-based trafficking U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken released the 2024 Trafficking in Persons Report (TIP Report) yesterday, emphasizing the growing role of technology in both facilitating exploitation and countering human trafficking. Traffickers have widened their reach by using digital platforms to communicate with and recruit victims globally, which has created a need for greater global coordination among anti-trafficking stakeholders and technology experts, the report states. These stakeholders face several challenges to coordinating a global response, however, including navigating diverse legal frameworks to address technology-facilitated human trafficking that transcends borders and jurisdictions, and the fact that traffickers take advantage of gaps, inadequacies, and loopholes in laws and regulations to enable their activities. https://lnkd.in/ehYbvfty

It’s not unethical when you make the rules right? There is no shadier entity than an unchecked government run by career politicians drunk on power like college kids at a fraternity party. But don’t worry, they’re watching EVERYTHING you do in your life and your business. Last week, the House Judiciary Committee and its Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government released an interim staff report titled, “Financial Surveillance in the United States: How Federal Law Enforcement Commandeered Financial Institutions to Spy on Americans” The report reveals alarming evidence of federal law enforcement engaging in broad financial surveillance and prying into the private transactions of American consumers. This surveillance, not predicated on specific evidence of criminal conduct, targeted terms and transactions related to core political and religious expressions protected by the Constitution. Federal law enforcement, including the Treasury Department's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and the FBI, facilitated multiple backchannel discussions with financial institutions to gather Americans’ private financial information. These discussions involved some of the largest financial institutions in the United States, such as Barclays, U.S. Bank, Charles Schwab, HSBC, Bank of America, PayPal, and many others. Tactics included keyword filtering of transactions, targeting terms like "MAGA" and "TRUMP," as well as purchases of books, religious texts, firearms-related items, and recreational stores, like Cabela’s, Bass Pro Shop, and Dick’s Sporting Goods. This surveillance extended beyond criminal suspicion, likely encompassing millions of Americans with conservative viewpoints or Second Amendment interests. The report also details the existence of a web portal run by the Domestic Security Alliance Council (DSAC), a public-private partnership led by the FBI's Office of Private Sector and the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Intelligence and Analysis. This portal appears to have shared intelligence products with financial institutions that were used to identify individuals who fit the profile of criminal and "domestic violent extremists," often because of their conservative political views or other constitutionally protected activity. Federal law enforcement used these reports and other materials they shared with financial institutions to commandeer their databases and conduct sweeping searches of individuals not suspected of committing any crimes, without a warrant, in order to identify individuals making certain “suspicious” transactions. The pattern of financial surveillance uncovered in the report raises serious concerns about federal law enforcement's and financial institutions' commitment to respecting Americans' privacy rights and fundamental civil liberties. 😳 Paying with your palm, where biometrics meets payment systems. Is this the biblical project plan running on schedule? What does the Bible say, "It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name. This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666." Now is probably a good time to look at the laws regarding privacy, legal tender, discrimination, etc...to ensure there are protections in place, to protect individual rights and freedoms to choose not to use biometrics. Forewarned is forearmed. 🧡 Email notification and latest article "Who are They?
