TECH.LAND Program promotes Cross-border Cooperation on Future Technologies - “Cross-border challenges require cross-border solutions. With the TECH.LAND program, the network of our region in the area of important future technologies is making significant progress,” said Mayor Markus Lewe. “The excellent collaboration between the city, science and business with our Dutch partners sustainably strengthens our shared innovation space.” The city of Münster, together with the Universität Münster and the IHK Nord Westfalen as well as the corresponding partners in the Enschede area (the Gemeente Enschede, the University of Twente and the Twente Board), discussed on the 21st of May 2024 in Enschede the current activities in German-Dutch cooperation. Across the German-Dutch border, companies and science should benefit from close cooperation in order to fully exploit the region's innovation potential. Among other things, the actual status of the new technology program “DUTCH - GERMAN TECH.LAND” was introduced. The program is focusing on the four subject areas of energy (#battery and #hydrogen), advanced manufacturing and #robotics, #health and #medtech as well as circular economy. The partners of the German-Dutch cooperation met in Enschede on Tuesday, May 21st to discuss the expansion of joint international marketing. The hosting role for the meeting rotates among the participating organizations. The TECH.LAND program will also be presented by the Mayors of Enschede and Münster at the Eurocities Annual Conference 2024 in Cluj. I believe the U.S. government's Regional Technology and Innovation Hubs program (Tech Hubs) is a useful approach to achieving technology leadership and sovereignty. Maybe we should start such an initiative in Germany too for our important industries and companies, and the jobs they create, to start, grow, and remain in Germany. The good thing is that we don't have to start from scratch. There are already powerful #technology cluster in many regions, such as it's OWL in the triangle of Bielefeld, Lemgo and Paderborn, which could be developed to the next level. Meet Golaleh Ebrahimpur, CEO of Chalmers Industriteknik, one of Sweden’s leading institutions in research and innovation and member of the Executive Board of the GATE Institute, who visited us recently. 📯 An exceptional professional, whose career journey reads like a masterclass in versatility and innovation, spanning the technology sector, from the iconic automobile giant Volvo to being involved in space technology developments, Mrs. Ebrahimpur has adeptly navigated the worlds of B2C and B2B. Her diverse experiences across various industries, markets, and technological fields highlight her strategic and operational acumen. ➡ In front of Мениджър (Manager.bg) she shares insights about her vision for the future of innovation, what it means to be a woman in a male-dominated world, and why innovation requires collaboration. "There are excellent prerequisites for the development of the Bulgarian innovation ecosystem. There are many talented people. This is key because it all starts with them. An innovation process cannot begin if it is not initiated by a creative idea. Moreover, it is not a solitary activity, but requires the cooperation of many people.”, says Mrs. Ebrahimpur talking about the potential of the Bulgarian innovation space. Acording to her access to other resources, competencies and infrastructure is also needed, as well as funding from both the state and industry. “From what I have seen in the context of GATE, these elements are already active. Building trust between partners in the innovation process is key," Golaleh Ebrahimpur says. 📖 You can read the whole interview here - https://shorturl.at/MYsCN

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗡𝗼𝗻-𝗛𝗶𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘁 What makes the Netherlands a leader in high-tech innovation? According to Marc Hendrikse, chairman of the Dutch governmental top sector Holland High Tech Systems & Materials, it’s a unique blend of historical ingenuity, cultural traits, and a collaborative spirit that traces back to the Dutch Golden Age. Speaking at the International Precision Conference in Veldhoven, Hendrikse shared a compelling analysis of the "Dutch way of innovation": - 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗕𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: Specialists in the Netherlands—from technicians to PhDs—work together directly, fostering open dialogue and mutual respect. This egalitarian, non-hierarchical culture enables groundbreaking advancements in high-tech systems. - 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆: The Netherlands’ resource-scarce environment has historically fueled a self-reliant mindset, driving communities to innovate and support each other. - 𝗔 𝗙𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹: From Philips’ early vertical integration to today’s collaborative networks with giants like ASML, NXP, and FEI, the Dutch approach maximizes expertise at every stage. Hendrikse highlighted how this culture stems from history, with innovations like Cornelis Corneliszoon's crankshaft in 1597 revolutionizing productivity during the Golden Age. By the late 17th century, Dutch shipyards dominated global trade, a testament to how innovation and prosperity go hand in hand. 🔑 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆: Continued collaboration and investment in innovation are essential to maintaining the Netherlands’ competitive edge. As Hendrikse concluded, this unique ecosystem allows the Dutch to "accelerate innovation power and improve competitiveness," making the Netherlands a model for high-tech innovation worldwide. At the regional level, the European Innovation Scoreboard places the Hovedstaden region (capital region of Copenhagen and the surrounding area) in Denmark in the lead, followed by Southern Finland, Upper Bavaria, Stockholm, Berlin and Zurich. At country level, Switzerland is ranked first in both the European Innovation Scoreboard and the GII, which is due in part to its efficient administration and the quality and research output of its universities. Switzerland also leads the field in terms of scientific publications produced in cooperation with companies and patent applications in relation to the number of inhabitants. Nevertheless, there is no reason to rejoice. Europe may have a relatively high level of research and a relatively innovative industry. However, if we look at where new companies are emerging that are valued in the billions and are thus becoming so-called unicorns, we are back to the aforementioned dominance of American and increasingly also Chinese tech companies. https://lnkd.in/da6zXQtx
