You’ve heard of product-market fit.
But have you heard of founder-market fit? 🧩
For Sunil Grover, Managing Partner at True Blue Partners, it’s the most important thing they look for in early-stage companies that don’t have a lot of sales—but have high growth potential.
Founding teams with deep technical knowledge and domain expertise are the best bets when it comes to looking at pre-revenue assets.
The only exception? A new market that’s exploding where years of experience would be impossible to have. “Then, we look at people who are straight out of school as well,” says Sunil. “Any prior knowledge, experience, or information is more a hurdle than an advantage.”
Hear more about identifying high-value assets before product-market fit has been determined in this episode of Private Equity Value Creation. https://lnkd.in/ev2Fgm7r
Know the four quadrants of product/market fit
“Product/market fit” is not a one-dimensional continuum measured by growth but rather a two-dimensional matrix. To give founders a mental model, Bessemer Partner Adam Fisher developed a diagram showing three detours on the way to product-market fit.

Blume Ventures reports are a treasure trove especially for MBA candidates & business folks!
Having read the Omega Files & Indus Valley Report, you'll get an overview of growth drivers in the Indian startup ecosystem. Happy Reading :)
My colleagues Marmik Mankodi supported by Nachammai Savithiri R have put together all their learnings, on how to conceive and execute a consumer tech venture, into the Blume Consumertech Playbook
Everything from how to do keyword research to think of white spaces, to landing page optimisation, to clickstream analysis to pitching investors, it is all there in the Blume Ventures ConsumerTech Playbook.
The only part that is missing is on getting to PMF, and I had to beg and bribe Marmik and Nachu to drop that ha ha, so I could have something to write about in my upcoming PMF playbook;-)

People ask why we don’t lead Series A rounds for our portfolio companies. Simple: it would change how we work with founders. After leading the seed, we’re aligned and focused on building trust and transparency. Competing to lead the next round would shift that dynamic.
WE'VE GOT BIG NEWS!!!
We’re thrilled to announce that GTM Buddy has raised $8 Million Series A from Archerman Capital and Leo Capital, with participation from Neon and our existing investor, Stellaris Venture Partners.
