One of the most annoying things after attending conferences? Getting a generic "Thanks for stopping by our booth" email from a vendor who I didn’t visit. It immediately makes me think, "They don't really do data management, do they?" For vendors investing in conferences, here is a little advice from a former CDO. -Don't blast emails to the entire attendee list. -If you're running a raffle, don't assume everyone who dropped a card actually engaged with you. -Don’t push everyone into the same ‘spray and pray’ funnel. Instead, consider a simple alternative. Follow up with value. Share insights from the conference floor. For example, "One of the key questions we heard at the conference was X. Here's our perspective on it..." To those who stopped by at your booth and had a genuine conversation, personalize your outreach. For example, "In our conversation, you spoke about how you’re investing in a data cataloging exercise…” Remember that success at conferences isn't about how much you spend, it’s about being strategic with your participation. Data people, any advice you’d like to add here for vendors? Share in the comments below

Working with many Fortune 1000 executives, I collected feedback around their preference for post-conference follow-up. Julia's sentiments are SPOT ON from the collective advice I received. Are you a solution-provider and find yourself asking the question - "why didn't anyone respond to me after the conference?" 1) Empathize with the human being you're reaching out to. 2) Read Julia's tips below. :-)

IMPACT Effect isn’t your typical conference. Here’s what sets us apart. First, we go all-in on connection. We provide opportunities to connect with others before, during, and after the event. From our digital app to in-person pre-conference gatherings, you’re building relationships from the start. Second, we make sure you leave with unforgettable experiences. Unlike most conferences, where the speakers feel out of reach, we break down those walls. You’ll get face-to-face time with speakers and attendees, creating moments that matter and content you’ll want to share long after it’s over. This isn’t just a conference, it’s an experience.

Looser mentality at conferences: - not sitting in the first few rows during panels - not taking the mic and asking questions if that’s offered - hiding in the bushes, taking less space, unclear speech, low-voice - templated approach, bending similar line regardless of the context - lurking and waiting until your target frees up from another convo - wedging in into obviously active fete-a-tetes - not dad joking // having random conversations totally unrelated to business - sitting in the phone for longer than several minutes at all times. - plankton listening to panel speakers > 25% of the event duration. - constantly chewing Something else? 🤔
