🐣 SoSquared has flown the nest 🐥 After two years in Exchange at Department 's shared space we've moved up to the 4th floor, where the air is crisp. Shared spaces are definitely the best option for those early days, but timing when to transition can be difficult; here's what we considered: ➕ Cohesion - having your own space fosters a strong sense of belonging and unity, making everyone feel more connected. In general it's just more enjoyable coming to the office. ➕ Focus - no more competing for a quiet corner or having meetings in open, noisy spaces. ➕ Whilst we're sharing with another company, we're still able to create our own work atmosphere and tailor the space to everyone's needs, increasing productivity (hopefully). ➕ Somewhere to bring clients - Bringing clients to a space which is ours leaves a much better impression. Think about the difference between taking someone back to your house, or your parents... ➖ Increased cost - shared spaces are always going to be cheaper, especially if you're on an incubator or accelerator programme (A good half-way house is sharing with another company). ➖ Isolation - you meet a lot of other companies in a shared space, which can help with ideation and networking, particularly in those early days. ➖ Flexibility - In a shared space you can always add or remove seats as needed. Dedicated offices get out-grown. We're loving having our own space, but curious whether others have found the same pressure to change, or found shared spaces working for them. HOT TAKE: Lobbies are some of the most underappreciated builders of character! ⚙ When you bump into someone in the lobby, you have to say hi, exchange niceties, or maybe have a small catchup—such delightful randomness. Lucky you if you find someone trying to walk in; because that means you get to hold the door and bump up your chivalry points. Aye?... Just kidding. The de facto Growthpad rule is that if you’re the first person to run into a visitor around the office lounge, you must ensure they’re comfortable and that the relevant host is informed. I mean, wouldn't it be amazing if our workplaces had a sprinkle of that Scranton magic? Now, let's be real. The Office is a comedy, and Scranton wouldn't be perfect. Michael Scott's antics could get old fast, and the constant goofing off might not be conducive to getting actual work done. LET THE MICE ALSO GLOW In the silent kitchen of corporate kooking and promising startups, there exists a force that connects the ranks together to work seamlessly and keeps the gear of industry rolling effortlessly. These are uncelebrated balls and grease - the employees who are often underrated in the 'who is who' of the organization. Take for example tge janitorial staff, they have been around before any one else and have handled the entire company's physical space before the sun peeks over tge horizon and leaves when the moon is high in the sky. Their work ensures a clean and healthy environment, which is fundamental to employees productivity and well-being. Yet, how often are their efforts acknowledged in the grand scheme of organizational achievement? Also in this category are the call centre operators, the receptionists, IT technicians, etc. These set of 'mice' that clean the debris of our industries should be delibrately celebrated.

From Ramen Noodles to a Throne: 7colors workspace was a cozy corner with a trusty (but slightly beat-up) laptop and the bare essentials. Back then, success tasted like instant ramen noodles and was fueled by late-night brainstorming sessions with my co-founder, Khush Goyal Remember those days, Khush? Fast forward to today, and our workspace is a complete glow-up! We've upgraded from a single screen to a double-monitor throne room (complete with a chair that feels suspiciously like royalty!). It's more than just fancy equipment, though – it's a tangible reminder of how far 7colors have come. Sure, the first few months were a rollercoaster. We hit a few bumps in the road, and let's be honest, the "clients" were mostly ourselves. But we never gave up! We doubled down on our hustle, fueled by a shared dream and an endless supply of coffee. Looking back at our workspace evolution fills us with immense pride. It's a testament to the hard work, dedication, and maybe a few late-night pizza deliveries that brought us here. A giant shoutout to everyone who believed in us – your support is what keeps us going!
