📣 Did You Know? The Reproductive Health National Training Center (RHNTC) conducted a comprehensive review of 423 studies from 93 countries to better understand client values around contraception. 🌍 They found that side effects and safety, effectiveness/reliability, and ease of use were the top three factors clients prioritize when choosing a contraceptive method. To promote client autonomy, contraceptive methods are categorized based on how much provider involvement is required: 1️⃣ Start/stop on their own 2️⃣ Provider starts with a prescription (self-stopping) 3️⃣ Provider starts and stops (reversible methods) 4️⃣ Provider-performed procedures (permanent methods) 5️⃣ Emergency contraception 💡 Interestingly, methods that are most autonomous often require frequent use and have fewer side effects. On the other hand, less autonomous methods tend to be more effective and easier to use. This highlights the importance of balancing effectiveness with personal autonomy in contraceptive care. Emergency contraceptive pills (ECPs) are a form of birth control that can prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure. “Potential Risks and Side Effects” 1. Using ECPs can result in changes to the menstrual cycle, such as irregular periods, spotting, or heavier menstrual bleeding. 2. ECPs are not 100% effective. They are less effective than regular contraceptives 3. Relying on ECPs as a regular form of contraception instead of using more consistent methods can lead to misuse and potential dependency, which is not recommended for long-term reproductive health. #pills #contraception #ipill #abortion #bleeding #fallopiantubepregnancy #fertility

Today we join advocates nationwide to mark Thanks Birth Control Day. Contraception is a core component of reproductive autonomy and health care, and its use is nearly universal in the United States. People use birth control for many reasons, including to avoid pregnancy, have healthier pregnancies or help time and space births, and more. Contraception must be available to anyone who needs it, including trans and nonbinary communities, young people and those living with low incomes. The incoming Trump administration poses serious threats to SRHR, including contraceptive access. This will likely include renewed attacks on the federally funded Title X family planning program, which ensures affordable contraceptive care for millions of people. Everyone deserves access to the full range of high-quality, affordable birth control methods that work best for them. Learn more: https://gu.tt/4ho0hJ7 #ThxBirthControl #ReproductiveHealth #TransWeek
