I recently had an eye-opening shopping experience at a store I've always enjoyed visiting. From entering to checking out, I realized something had changed in the retail landscape. No greetings at the door, no help in the aisles, and no interaction at the checkout. Self-checkout was the only option. It made me question if self-service is overtaking customer service entirely. In a world where online shopping is booming, shouldn't in-store experiences strive to be exceptional? As prices rise, shouldn't a warm welcome and a simple thank you be part of the retail standard? I believe there's a middle ground where self-service and customer service can coexist to benefit both shoppers and retailers. While I acknowledge the challenges of staffing in today's climate, I wonder if there's a solution that can enhance the shopping experience for all.
