New York Times bestselling author Richard Rothstein and co-author Leah Rothstein compliments The Watson, one of WinnCompanies’ most inclusive apartment communities, in his latest publication “Just Action.” Located in Quincy, MA, The Watson is a pioneering workforce housing property where low, middle- and higher-income residents co-exist in a socially cohesive environment. Rothstein, whose book “The Color of Law” confronted segregation myths, says of the community: “A healthy community that can sustain a common national identity is one where affluent, middle- class, working- class, and low- income families of all races and ethnicities have access to the same resources and whose children attend the same schools. This should be the aspiration of civil rights activists… The (WinnCompanies’) Watson design … suggests the potential of truly mixed- income, mixed- race housing. - Richard Rothstein and Leah Rothstein, Just Action: How to Challenge Segregation Enacted Under the Color of Law. 🏘 Celebrating National Fair Housing Month: A Legacy of Equality 🏘 This April, we honor the 56th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act, a pivotal moment in American history that continues to shape our nation’s commitment to equality and justice. As we observe National Fair Housing Month, let’s reflect on the progress made and the journey ahead. The Fair Housing Act, signed into law on April 11, 1968, by President Lyndon B. Johnson, marked a watershed moment in civil rights, prohibiting discrimination in housing transactions based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, and familial status. This act was not just legislation; it was a declaration that every American deserves the opportunity to secure a home without facing barriers of prejudice. The road to fair housing was paved with the tireless efforts of activists and leaders who fought against deeply entrenched discrimination. The act’s passage came in the wake of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination, serving as a testament to his vision of an equitable society. As we celebrate this month, let’s also acknowledge the work that remains. The theme for this year’s Fair Housing Month, “Fair Housing: The ‘Act’ in Action,” reminds us that laws are only as powerful as their enforcement and our collective will to uphold them. Join me in commemorating this significant month by reaffirming our dedication to advancing fair housing for all. Together, we can ensure that the promise of the Fair Housing Act is not just remembered but realized in communities across the nation. #FairHousingMonth #Equality #CivilRights #Inclusion

To mark National Fair Housing Month I'm sharing this video clip (https://lnkd.in/eqtt35MK) that Kadineyse Paz shared with us during a lunch-n-learn presentation to our team. Kadineyse is a Community Planner for Housing & Equity with JM Goldson and recently completed a project with one of her professors at Tufts. The broad purpose of this project was to expand awareness and strengthen the implementation of fair housing in Massachusetts. Outside of just doing research, they sought to identify key and new voices in Greater Boston cities who could help to identify roadblocks to effective fair housing strategies in their areas. The report had four goals: 1) To help raise public awareness about fair housing, and implications for enforcement, especially as it involves people that identify as Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC) 2) Broaden discussion about fair housing where fair housing advocates communicate with other civic voices 3) Assist with ensuring that narratives calling for increasing affordable housing are conjoined with a narrative of affirmatively furthering fair housing 4) Encourage greater local government attention to the history of fair housing and how institutional racism has shaped suburban white communities today Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/e8wQvDsv #communityplanning #urbanplanning #equity #fairhousing #affordablehousing #housinghistory

Community, It's been four years since our country embarked on a much overdue reckoning on race in this county. So many commitments, committee, task-forces, councils, and entirely new positions were created. My question for you is- WHERE ARE WE NOW? I invite you to engage in these questions to reflect on how far we've come, and how far we still have to go 1. In what ways has my awareness of inequity grown since 2020? 2. In what ways have my beliefs and values changed in what ways have I grown, and developed since 2020? 3. What is something I'm proud to have accomplished in regards to social justice since 2020 personally? What has my organization accomplished? 4. What are some things that I still want to explore and learn more about? What are some areas of growth I still see for my organization? "Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced." -James Baldwin

April is recognized as Fair Housing Month 🏡 to honor the Fair Housing Act, signed into law on April 11, 1968, just days after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ✊🏽 on April 4, 1968. Dr. King's staunch advocacy for civil rights and equal housing opportunities 🤝🏽 was a catalyst for this legislation, which was a crucial part of the broader civil rights movement 📜 aimed at addressing systemic racial discrimination, including in housing. Designating April as Fair Housing Month 📅 commemorates this critical law, educates the public on equal housing opportunities, and reinforces the ongoing commitment to combating housing discrimination. This dedicated month allows for a concentrated period of reflection, education, and action, which resonates deeply at a national level and draws significant attention from media and policymakers. The activities conducted during this month, such as workshops, seminars, and public campaigns, play a key role in increasing public awareness and spurring actionable change, while also highlighting the historical significance and the continuing relevance of the Fair Housing Act. #FairHousingMonth #HousingEquality #CivilRights #EndHousingDiscrimination #HousingJustice #EqualHousingForAll #FairHousingAct #CivilRightsMovement #MLKLegacy #FightForFairHousing

April is #FairHousingMonth, a time to reflect on and reaffirm our commitment to fighting housing discrimination. Enacted in 1968, shortly after the tragic loss of Martin Luther King Jr., the Fair Housing Act was a landmark in our journey toward creating inclusive communities free from discrimination. This year, we celebrate 56 years of progress since this critical civil rights law was signed into action by President Lyndon Johnson. The Fair Housing Act stands against discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, and familial status, embodying the promise of equality in our communities. The theme for this year, as announced by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), is “Fair Housing: The ‘Act’ in Action.” 🏠💼 HUD is rolling out a series of online events and training to deepen our understanding and practice of fair housing principles. Stay tuned for: - Online toolkits and resources - The AFFH-T Data and Mapping Tool - Workshops on preventing discriminatory harassment in housing - Guidance on Fair Housing obligations and rights Let's continue to work together to ensure everyone has access to fair and equitable housing. 🤝 AMERICAN TITLE TRUST www.amtitletrust.com +1 888-848-5320 | order@amtitletrust.com LAKE NONA | MIAMI | WESTON | ORLANDO | TAMPA In-person and remote closings throughout Florida.
