As Black History Month transitions into International Women's Day, this video from Don Peebles as he receives the Business Icon Award at The Grio Award, highlights the shared challenge both groups face in access to capital. "The fuel to run the motors of business is capital. Now, let me give you an illuminating fact. Today, there is over 82 Trillion dollars invested in venture capital and private equity. Of that 82 trillion dollars less than 1.3% of it is invested in firms run or owned by women or people of color. Combined. What that means is 98.7% of venture capital money, 81 trillion dollars out of 82 trillion dollars is provided to white men. Yet, white men represent only 31% of America's population. Women represent 51% of Americans, we Black Americans are 13% of Americans. Thus, you have 64% of the population receiving less than 1.3% of the investment capital." ~ Don Peebles Link to video in the comments. These numbers are not unique to the US. Less than 2% of VC funding globally is invested in female founded businesses. Less than 2%! In 2024, Growing the 2% Club is committed to amplify and advocating for female founders seeking the investment and liquidity to grow their businesses. If you are a fund manager in the position to invest in a fabulous female founded business, 🎯 Write the check. If you are a family office looking to make a true impact, 🎯 Seek out female founded businesses that are ready to scale. If you feel your business is already making an effort in this space, 🎯 Do more. If you are a purchasing department, of large corporations purchasing from female founded businesses, 🎯 understand the reality of the 2% Club and find ways to accelerate or adapt the payment terms with your purchase. Please feel free to highlight people doing hero's work in this space. #blackhistorymonth #internationalwomensday #Grow2PercentClub

Sharing the takeover post I did for the wonderful Rowena Wilding last week. When awards are integrated in your marketing they become even more valuable, as there are gains from the moment you enter. Ready to stop winging it and start winning it? Book a discovery call 🤍

Well half term has ticked by in a blink of an eye! If you're now sat, starting at the devastation left by the kids, thinking you deserve an award for holding it all together - kids, house, business, admin, marketing and all the rest.... Then today's takeover is perfect for you. Emma Hewitt is an award-winning awards specialist! (Probably don't try to get your head round that after a glass of wine) She helps businesses optimise their award entries, maximise their chances of winning, and capitalise on all the addition opportunities awards bring. She took my 1 day strategy workshop, honed her offer, and is now kicking ass, with her first three clients ALL picking up trophies!

I truly appreciate the recognition from the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC)...obviously this is not purely an individual award but rather one that shows the collective commitment and dedication of the entire Constellation IT organization. In a world where technology is continually transforming the way we live and work, it is crucial that we ensure the transformation is inclusive. Initiatives to empower minority businesses are not just about social responsibility; it’s about driving innovation, fostering creativity, and building a stronger, more diverse business ecosystem.
Congratulations to SVP and Chief Information Officer Jay Cavalcanto on being named CIO of the Year by the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) as part of the organization’s 2024 Equity Honors. The award recognizes Jay’s leadership in driving Constellation’s commitment to and support of minority- and women-owned businesses as well advocating for our IT partners to continually leverage and expand the diverse supplier ecosystem.

It was an honor to be recognized for my board service by the Puget Sound Business Journal at their Directors of the Year awards last night. In accepting my award, I had the chance to share a little more about my interest in and commitment to DEI. While each of the organizations I advise has unique, industry-specific opportunities, a common denominator for each of them is the opportunity to foster cultures of growth and improve their performance by investing in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Companies that lead on DEI aren't just doing the right thing, they're setting themselves up for stronger financial performance, greater innovation, and the ability to connect with a more diverse customer base. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, those that embrace diversity will be better positioned to thrive. https://lnkd.in/gX6MYYDa

So, we didn’t get a female president this election, but history was still made—our first-ever female Chief of Staff in the White House! This is a reminder of what’s possible for #womeninleadership, and it ties right into what we’re doing with our 2nd Annual Impact Awards. The #ImpactAwards celebrate entrepreneurs who go beyond business to make a real difference. Whether our past contestants won or not, they gained something bigger: learning the stories of their communities and seeing the impact their products made. This is about standing out by building relationships the right way—creating positive change across 12 critical areas. Each year, we support six companies that embody this spirit. So, if you’re ready to make an impact and lead with purpose, apply to the Impact Awards now: PulsePointPath.com/Awards Comment below with your game plan, and let’s make big moves together!

A big thank you to Lisa Bragg for delivering such an insightful and engaging presentation at our Women’s Thought Leadership event last night. The energy in the room was contagious. You left everyone wanting more. Thank you for sharing insights from your book, Bragging Rights and teaching us how to get comfortable with sharing our strengths. Your expertise and passion truly shone through, leaving us inspired and enlightened. We all look forward to implementing your valuable insights into action. My three biggest takeaways for the evening were: 1. If you don’t share your successes, who will? No one can do so better than you. 2. Lift up another woman and promote her success. We need to support one another. 3. Share your journey not just the success. People want to know your story.

And The Award Goes To 🏆 A great way to be noticed is by getting an award 🏆 or industry recognition. Not only do you get noticed, it helps establish you as an expert or leader in your field. No matter your business size 🏆 will boost your visibility. 🎗 Some awards you can nominate yourself for, and others need 3rd party to nominate you. 🎗 Carefully research which awards are relevant, both large (national) and small (local). 🎗 Give full attention to the requirements and deadlines. 🎗 Highlight your achievements, results, innovations, or impact you or your company have made. 🎗 When possible quantify your impact. Numbers add weight to your submission. 🎗 Get a testimonial from a client or respected member of the community. ▶ When you get that award promote the win across your social media and marketing channels. ▶ Consider a press release of your award to get further recognition. ▶ Add the organization logos to your website, email, packaging, storefront, etc. Transparency note: I have no affiliation with Carrie Charles, however, I wanted to highlight a recent award winner, give her the shout-out she deserves, and highlight the value of industry recognition. https://lnkd.in/eHBeRyGS
