Congrats to Michael Jarman, the new 2024 Microsoft Excel World Champion! We love seeing what you and your fellow competitors can do with advanced capabilities in Excel.
I won the Microsoft Excel World Championship! Yes, that is a thing. In fact, competitive Excel has been a thing for a while, and it's been six years since I won a competition like this. A lot has changed since then: - it's gone has gone from a small event in a Microsoft boardroom, to a spectacle in an actual arena (and televised on ESPN3); - media coverage has gone from a curious afterthought to being mentioned in outlets worldwide (and I'm apparently even viral on TikTok); - and most importantly, instead of winning a trophy shaped like a golden keyboard, you now win a massive golden WWE-style belt (in my opinion, the most important improvement). With the field getting better and better (and Excel continuously adding new things to keep up with), I was unsure I'd ever win again (or if anyone would actually ever beat 3x champion Andrew Ngai). After a six year break, it's therefore nice to once again be able to say that 'it's coming home'. A big well done to my fellow medallists, fellow Brit Chris Clarke, and to Jakub Pomykalski. Also well done to Diarmuid Early for winning the Financial Modelling World Cup this year. I could unfortunately only manage third here - though it's the second year in a row I've been the only person to make the podium in both competitions, so that's something. Regretfully, I do have to say that I have learned nothing about B2B marketing from this whole endeavour, so you'll have to follow someone else on here for information on that. Roll on 2025! Only another 3 more consecutive championships to beat Andrew's record...
