1) Take a small block of wood and wrap your string around it in a haphazard way to create crisscrosses for a more intricate pattern or evenly across for a more even pattern. Tie the two ends together along the back of the block. 

2) Make a 1:1 ratio of water and bleach and put it in a shallow plate.

3) Tap the block in the bleach mix just enough to get the string all covered in the bleach. Have a junk towel next to you so you can tap the block onto it and get off any excess bleach. I did not do this which resulted in the thicker bleached areas so learn from my mistake!

My friend Misty reminded me of the time we experimented with stamping with bleach. There are several approaches to do this but one of my favorite is what I did on this page.
