It’s not necessary.

Consider all the big machines that plant field tulips by the millions. Do they turn every bulb upright in field plantings? Nope. We had this realization and we’re never going back. 🤣

Here’s our method: We open a 3ft wide trench. We make it 6-8 inches deep, so we can get some nice extra stem length on our tulips. We use a tiller to loosen the soil and make digging the trench a lot easier. We pour our bulbs 500 at a time into the trench bed and just quickly smooth them out into a single layer.
