Prized by their owners, they were passed down from generation-to-generation. This necklace is a very old one, with sturdily-made pendants that were linked together by chains. The largest pendant was chase-incised with a design of multi-petaled flowers. A large lotus blossom surrounds the bead in the center. Distinctively-Kashmiri deep-red beads add vibrant color, while warding off the evil-eye. Equally old pendant-links extend up the sides, joined together by chains. The pendant-links have unusual repousse, or raised accents. This is a remarkable old piece that is still in excellent, collectible condition. It has a rich age-patina and very mild wear patterns. About KASHMIR: Kashmir (Srinagar) is a lush valley located in the foothills of the Himalayas in Central Asia. Situated halfway between the Tibetan Plateau and the diverse sub-continent of India, the Kashmir Valley was often referred to as "Heaven on Earth." For centuries, Kashmir was a major stopping place along the Old Silk Road trade route that linked goods and ideas between the East and West. Today Kashmir remains a contested land, with its dominion yet to be resolved. ©
