This is a beautiful vintage collection of 17 knit edging. Adding a border or edging of some kind can transform a plain garment into something a little more fancy. Edgings can be simple, textural, scalloped, or lacy and there is no end to stitch alternatives. Edgings can be worked horizontally along the cast-on edge, or vertically as a strip that is sewn in place once it is complete. Simple edgings are worked over just a few stitches and rows and take very little time to complete. Bobble and lace edgings, which involve increasing and decreasing stitches and a more complex written pattern, can take a little longer, but are a pretty alternative to a plain rib border, for example. More elaborate edgings, such as lace, tend to work better in a crisp, fine yarn such as cotton, since this gives clear stitch definition and is less likely to stretch. Before you add a border , think carefully about what style would be most suitable for the garment; a simple border works well on a complex piece, while a lace border is more effective on a plain piece.
