Vintage English Christening Gown with Lots of Ruffles and Valenciennes Lace This charming and very Romantic gown dates from the turn of the last century from about c.1890 to perhaps 1920, and is in a classic style. This gown follows a traditional pattern with a high waisted bodice and the full skirt embellished with ruffles of Valenciennes lace all around. Although this gown is Victorian, I think it has an 'Elizabethan look' with the high neck edged in lace, and the lace ruffles over the shoulders above very fancy sleeves. The entire gown is fashioned of a fine light-weight cotton lawn which makes the gown dainty and 'airy'. The back of the gown is just as fancy as the front with the ruffles all around the back. This gown has been beautifully sewn both by hand with the tiniest possible stitching. This lovely English Victorian gown measures approx. 18 inches around at the raised waist and 18 inches at the underarms and approx. 8 inches across at the shoulders. It measures 42 inches long from the shoulders to the hem which will give it a lovely sweep when baby is carried to the altar. Because we cannot assign sizes to these vintage items, please check your measurements carefully. We can say that we believe this gown would likely fit a baby of about 2 months up to about 6 or 7 months according to body type. Finally this gown is in excellent vintage condition, clean, fresh and white. After close inspection we see several small, discreet and well made repairs that are hardly noticeable...nothing serious at all.
