Gareth Southgate is a former manager of the England football team. He was been manager from 2016 to 2024, and took England to fourth place in the 2018 World Cup, third place in the 2019 Uefa Nations League and second place at Euro 2020. Before becoming a manager, Southgate played for Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough as a defender. He stopped playing in 2006 after 18 years and more than 500 league appearances. He managed England at the 2022 World Cup, but the team lost to France in the quarter finals. Southgate resigned after the England team lost to Spain at the 2024 Euro final.
