THAT IS, UNTIL HIS ARREST YESTERDAY. MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE FAMILY BECAUSE I HEAR THEY’RE A REAL RESPECTFUL FAMILY. MANGIONE IS A NAME THAT’S WELL KNOWN AND WELL RESPECTED IN NORTHERN BALTIMORE COUNTY. IT’S NOT A NAME ANYONE. 11 TALKED TO, EXPECTED TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH A NATIONAL MANHUNT AND MURDER INVESTIGATION. BUT MONDAY, 26 YEAR OLD LUIGI MANGIONE WAS ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH SHOOTING AND KILLING THE CEO OF UNITED HEALTH CARE. THE BOY JUST THREW HIS LIFE AWAY, YOU KNOW, AND WHAT’S THE POINT? LUIGI IS THE SON OF LOU AND KATHLEEN MANGIONE. LOU TOOK OVER HIS FATHER, NICHOLAS REAL ESTATE EMPIRE, INCLUDING HAYFIELDS AND TURF VALLEY COUNTRY CLUBS. THE LAURENE HEALTH NETWORK OF NURSING HOMES, AND A LOCAL RADIO STATION. THOSE BUSINESSES ALL FALL UNDER THE UMBRELLA OF MANGIONE FAMILY ENTERPRISES. ANOTHER IS BALTIMORE COUNTY DELEGATE NINO MANGIONE, WHO ANNOUNCED HE IS CANCELING HIS FUNDRAISER THURSDAY IN LIGHT OF LUIGI’S ARREST, WRITING HIS FAMILY IS SHOCKED AND DEVASTATED. Former patriarch Nicholas Mangione had 10 children and built a real estate empire that Luigi Mangione's father inherited.It appeared, until he was charged with murder on Monday, that Luigi Mangione was poised to follow in the family footsteps. Luigi Mangione was the 2016 valedictorian of Gilman with undergrad and graduate degrees from an Ivy League college."My heart goes out to the family because I hear they're a real respectable family," a man named Larry said.No one who 11 News spoke with expected the Mangione name to be associated with the fatal shooting of former UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.| VIDEO BELOW: Man with Maryland ties now charged in CEO's killingLuigi Mangione is the son of Lou and Kathleen Mangione. Yesterday, when I came back from lunch, they had the golf course out there blocked off, and they had security and everything.
