A global commitment to a safer digital future for every child

WeProtect Global Alliance is driven by a single, unwavering mission: to protect children from the pervasive dangers of sexual exploitation and abuse online.

We believe every child has the right to experience the digital world with confidence and safety, protected by proactive measures and collective global action.

We bring together governments, the private sector, civil society, and international organisations to develop collaborative solutions and drive real-world change, unifying partners across nations and industries to achieve what no single organisation can accomplish alone.

However, obstacles remain:

  • Complexity: ending child sexual exploitation and abuse online involves diverse sectors across government, business, and society.
  • Under-reporting: rising encryption may widen knowledge gaps.
  • Disagreements: siloed approaches and limited trust hinder collaboration.
  • Limited resources: prevention efforts remain underserved worldwide.

Our Alliance exists to overcome these obstacles by fostering collaboration, sharing resources, and supporting our members to drive impactful, unified action.

Our theory of change

To maximize our support, we act as a catalyst for coordinated global action, helping members achieve far more together. Our theory of changes supports us to make a compelling case for action, drives research to understand the impact and future risks and supports pooling knowledge and crafting solutions.

Our core work

We drive change globally through three core initiatives:

  • Global Threat Assessment: Tracks global trends and developments.
  • Response Frameworks: Tools like the Model National Response provide practical approaches to guide effective action at a country level, across sectors.
  • Global Summit: Brings together members and key partners biennially to amplify advocacy and foster collaboration.

We also work with our members to convene, collaborate, support and build knowledge to strengthen our collective global response to keep children safe. We amplify their work through case studies and sharing information, we host events and we commission research.

Our impact

At the end of our 2023-2025 strategy, we want to deliver impact about four core areas:

Knowledge

Members gain insights into the scale and nature of online child sexual abuse and effective responses.

Empowerment

Survivors and young people help shape the global response.

Advocacy

Members drive impactful, well-resourced actions at national and global levels.

Collaboration

Members engage in cross-border cooperation, leveraging global expertise for a unified response.

We prioritize evaluation, shared learning, and evidence-based impact across all objectives to strengthen our collective mission.

Our impact in 2023

Our impact 2019-2022

Our 2019-2022 strategy saw the Alliance make significant strides in our mission to combat child sexual abuse online. Key achievement included:

  • Expanded network: We established ourselves as the largest and most diverse multi-sector network focused on ending child sexual abuse online, growing to over 250 members across more than 100 countries, including governments, intergovernmental organizations, civil society, and private sector partners.
  • Comprehensive Global Threat Assessment: In October 2021, we launched the third edition of our Global Threat Assessment, delivering the most extensive and thorough analysis of child sexual abuse online to date.
  • Review of the Model National Response: Collaborating with UNICEF, we undertook a comprehensive review of our Model National Response, culminating in the Framing the Future report. Impressively, 90% of the countries analyzed utilized the Model National Response as a benchmark for best practices.
  • Voices of Survivors Project: Partnering with ECPAT International, we initiated the Voices of Survivors project, which prioritized listening to the experiences of child sexual abuse survivors. This initiative enhanced our understanding of social care responses, and we welcomed a new survivor advocate to our Board in December 2022.
  • Successful Global Summit: Our Global Summit in June 2022 was our largest advocacy event, attracting 400 in-person delegates and nearly 500 virtual participants. This event highlighted our global reach and influence, recognized by the G7 Internet Safety Principles in April 2021 for our critical work in promoting a safer online environment.
  • Establishment of the Global Task Force: In October 2022, we launched a Global Task Force dedicated to enhancing government engagement in the fight against online child sexual abuse.
