Jesse Watters Tells Canadians: It’s A ‘Privilege’ to Be Taken Over
Fox News host Jesse Watters is all-in when it comes to Donald Trump’s stated desire to annex Canada, even telling a prominent politician from America’s northern neighbor Tuesday that it should be considered a “privilege” to be taken over because “that’s what everybody else in the world wants.”
Watters’ first question to Ontario Premier Doug Ford was blunt: “What’s your problem with the United States absorbing Canada?”
Ford said he gets why Trump, a “real estate tycoon,” is making these overtures, but Canadians have no interest in becoming the 51st state or anything of the sort, and that he would prefer to see the two countries work together on trade issues.
Watters pressed the topic.
“I get it. You say that Americans don’t have a problem with Canadians and we don’t talk, but it seems like you have a problem with us,” Watters insisted.
“Because if I were a citizen of another country and a neighbor of the United States, I would consider it a privilege to be taken over by the United States of America,” he argued. “That’s what everybody else in the world wants: American citizenship. For some reason that’s repellent to you Canadians and I find that personally offensive, premier.”
Ford, who earlier shot back at Trump by suggesting Canada could purchase Alaska and Minnesota, didn’t take the bait.
“You know something, Jesse? We are proud Canadians, just like there are proud Americans, and if we join together and take on the world with a great trade deal between us, I think that would be fabulous,” Ford said. “No one can stop us.”
Watters then gauged Ford’s interest in the U.S. and Canada splitting ownership of Greenland, which isn’t for sale, despite Trump’s continuing statements of interest.
Unsurprisingly, Ford wasn’t on board.
“No,” he said. “We’re good.”
