Ch. Surinder Singh is the son of Choudhary Jagjit Singh and Gurbachan Kaur of Jalandhar resident.He attended the Seventh Day Adventist School.He has one son, Damanvir Singh, and two daughters, Yashwinder Kaur, who is married to Deep Kamal PPS in Patiala and Navinder Kaur. His elder sister Leena is married to IAS officer Kapil Dev. His younger sister Raina is Married to IRS officer Bharat Bhushan Malhan. His younger brother Rakesh settled in Canada.

He started his political career as Sarpanch of Vill Dhaliwal in 1980,in the Chief Ministership of Darbara Singh.In 1994,He became Chairman Of Panchayat Samiti Jalandhar during the Chief Ministership of Beant Singh.In 1996, Harcharan Singh Brar was the Chief Minister of Panjab nominated him the Chairman of Market Committee Jalandhar.He won the Zila Parishad Elections in the time of Captain Amarinder Singh Govenment and became Chairman of Zila Parishad Jalandhar in 2003-2008.

He is the President of Mgsm Janta College,Mgsm Sr.Sec.School,Kartarpur,Master Gurbanta Singh Holy Heart Senior Secondary School,Lambra,Master Gurbanta Singh Technical InstituteJalandhar.

He is the President Shri Guru Ravidas Foundation India. He is also Vice President of Shri Guru Ravidas Trust Jalandhar and Shri Guru Ravidas Bhawan Link Road Jalandhar.
