Sports Information
[edit]Katie Baker was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, April 22, 1984. She is the daughter of Lorraine and Richard and sisters Jean and Jossie, who reside in Argyle Shore PEI. Katie is a member of the Canadian Women's National Field Hockey Team and a professional club based in Belgium. She has over 50 caps for her country and plays the harmonica well.
She finished 5th at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Also a team member at the 2005 Junior Women's World Cup in Chile. A member of the senior national team since 2006 (junior national team from 2004-2005). Her first senior international cap was the 2006 UK Tour in Cardiff, Wales.
Katie is currently coached by Sally Bell since 2006 (previous coaches include Hash Kanjee with the Junior National Team, Sharon Rajaraman, and Jennifer Gillan at Bluefield Highschool). Katie's training is based out of Vancouver, Canada and most recently Belgium.
She was introduced to field hockey at age 14 when her family moved to Hamilton, Ontario where she decided to try out for the highschool team. She draws inspiration from her legally blind grandfather who lived alone, walked, drove a boat, skied, biked and played basketball with her. She most admires her family for pushing her so hard to reach the elite level
Her ultimate goal is to reach the Olympic Games.
Personal Interests
[edit]Katie attended Bluefield Highschool in Hampshire, Prince Edward Island, Canada. She will graduate in 2009 with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Saint Mary's University, University of Prince Edward Island, and the University of British Columbia.
While in Eurpope playing professional field hockey she spends her free time learning tecktonik dance. While in Vancouver she works as a restaurant server at Westward Ho! at the University Golf Course.
Katie plans to pursue a career in public relations but has also entertained the idea of becoming a multi-instrumental musician playing guitar, piano and harmonica at the same time. Katie's exceptionally long toes allow her to play piano with her feet.
Katie enjoys napping, going to the beach, skimboarding, eating and going out for coffee. As a big fan of dairy products Katie often lists cheese and Peanut Butter Fudge Crunch as her favorites.
Katie has a dog which is a beagle/labrador cross named "Calpurnia" who has difficulty swimming.
