Please Bring Me Home is a non-profit organization focused on finding cold-case missing persons across Canada. The team's goal focuses on bringing missing persons home to their loved ones and providing closure to their families and friends. They claim that there goal is not centred on criminality or bringing charges upon anyone, but only in reuniting families[1].
History
[edit]Please Bring Me Home was officially founded in 2018 by Nick Oldrieve, Matthew Nopper, and Melissa Hardwood, but preparations for the organization began in 2016. Initially, Please Bring Me Home focused primarily on cases in Grey and Bruce county in Ontario, Canada. Specifically the cases of Lisa Maas, Lois Hanna, Neil McDougall, Shawn and Leslie Jones, Joseph Moore, and Kristina Rhodes were the first cases investigated by the group[1].
Lisa Maas
[edit]Lisa Maas was last seen in the early morning of July 17, 1988 after leaving a house party in Woodford, Ontario. Lisa was 22 years old and five months pregnant at the time of her disappearance[2]. Her vehicle was found on a vacant road two days after her disappearance. There have been many tips submitted about Lisa's disappearance and many search efforts conducted to locate her, but she has not been found[1].
Lois Hanna
[edit]Lois Hanna was last seen in the early morning of July 4, 1988 when she left a dance at the Lucknow Arena in Lucknow, Ontario. She returned home to her residence in Kincardine and appeared to go about her night routine[1]. She was reported missing when she did not arrive at work the next morning. Lois was 25 years old at the time of her disappearance, and a nightgown and matching robe were the only articles deemed missing from her residence[3].
Neil McDougall
[edit]Neil McDougall was last seen in the early morning of October 13, 1985 in Ayton, Ontario. He had attended Blondie's Tavern in Ayton on the night of October 12, and then went to a residence which is where he was last seen. Neil's pickup truck was found close to this residence with the ashtray full of various different brands of cigarette butts, even though Neil did not smoke[1]. Foul play is strongly suspected in Neil's case. He was 40 years old at the time of his disappearance[4].
Shawn and Leslie Jones
[edit]Shawn and Leslie Jones were distant cousins who were last officially seen on October 22, 1993 in Wiarton, Ontario. They were 14 and 15 years old respectively at the time of their disappearance[1]. On the night of October 22, Shawn stole his grandmothers car along with some money from his mother and drove the car towards a dance in Lions Head, Ontario[5]. The car was later found crashed, with the boys having fled. There are reports of Shawn and Leslie hitchhiking from Cape Crocker, Ontario to Wiarton, Ontario. There have been tips of the boys being seen as late as 1996[1].
Joseph Moore
[edit]Joe Moore was last seen on October 31, 2012 in Kincardine, Ontario. Joe was 49 years old at the time of his disappearance. He was known to frequent the trails and town streets around the Kincardine area. A black coat was found washed up on the shore of Boiler Beach, Kincardine that resembled the coat that Joe frequently wore[1], however no further information about his case has been made public.
Kristina Rhodes
[edit]Kristina Rhodes was last seen on October 18, 1991 when she was thought to be hitchhiking from Southampton, Ontario to Hanover, Ontario. She was about 18 years old at the time of her disappearance. There is little information known about Kristina or her disappearance and Please Bring Me Home began to bring this case into the public's awareness, with no known articles documenting her disappearance before they became involved[6].
The Program
[edit]The program functions through an anonymous tip process in where anyone with information regarding a cold case missing persons case can submit what they know to the organizations website. The team also reaches out to loved ones of the missing persons in order to learn more about them and any tips that they may have[1].
Please Bring Me Home primarily functions through their website and their Facebook and Instagram accounts where they share updated information on the cases they are investigating[1].
The team consists of volunteers throughout Canada including citizens, family members of missing persons, and experts in law enforcement and investigation fields. Please Bring Me Home is actively seeking new volunteers in order to grow their organization and accept more cases[1].
Please Bring Me Home accepts donations to help fund their searches and investigation efforts. They are also sponsored by various companies such as Staples, Barry's Construction, and Bayshore Broadcasting. The group also hosts silent auctions in order to receive additional funding[1].
In October 2019, CTV's show W5 aired an episode that featured a segment on Please Bring Me Home. This episode increased volunteer support, funding, and general public interest in the group. Multiple families of missing persons contacted Please Bring Me Home in order for their loved ones case to be investigated by the team. Please Bring Me Home now investigates various cold cases across Canada[1].
Solved Cases
[edit]Tips submitted to the Please Bring Me Home website as well as leads followed by the team led to the finding of 17 missing persons, two of whom were found deceased[1].
Nolan Panchyshyn
[edit]Nolan Panchyshyn disappeared from Southampton, Ontario on December 12, 2017. Nolan was 20 years old at the time of his disappearance. Please Bring Me Home only investigates cases that are deemed cold cases and are not actively being investigated by the police, however Nolan's family reached out to Please Bring Me Home and asked if Nolan's case could be featured on their website even though it did not meet these criteria. The team at Please Bring Me Home agreed to post Nolan's information and to forward all tips given directly to the police[1].
On February 19, 2018, a tip came into the Please Bring Me Home website which the team immediately forwarded to the police. On March 16, 2018, Nolan's remains were found in Dornoch, Ontario. The law enforcement agency thanked Please Bring Me Home in providing them with the tip that led to Nolan's discover and the criminal charging of two men in relation to his disappearance[1].
Due to Nolan's case, Please Bring Me Home began The Panchyshyn Project in which they will post information regarding people who have gone missing within the last year if requested by family. These cases will be featured on the Guardians of Our Angels Missing Persons Canada page. Please bring Me Home will assist the families in completing the intake form and send it to the Guardians of Our Angels page on behalf of the family[1].
Terry Shope
[edit]Terry Shope was reported missing on June 9, 2018 in Owen Sound, Ontario. Please Bring Me Home conducted searches for Terry along the shore of the Owen Sound Bay, and members of the team located Terry's remains on July 8, 2018. Little information is known about Terry or his disappearance[7].
