[edit]Category:Organizations listed as a U. S. foreign agent

- The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Organizations listed by the United States as foreign agents. bibliomaniac15 03:33, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: The wording "U.S. foreign agent" is misleading, especially that the "foreign agent" label is also applied to entities operating in Russia. Additionally, the U. S. spelling violates MOS. I'm proposing a rename to a less ambiguous name. — kashmīrī TALK 21:05, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- I created a category, but named it rather clumsily. Support, although maybe one should name it Category:Organizations listed in the United States as foreign agents, similarly with Category:Organizations listed in Russia as foreign agents. Wikisaurus (talk) 21:06, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- Your version reads even better. — kashmīrī TALK 21:10, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- Question should it not be Category:Organizations listed by the United States as foreign agents. This is a category for those designated by the government. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:58, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
- Agree, "by" is more appropriate than "in". Marcocapelle (talk) 21:56, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: After Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2022 February 15#Category:Law of the United Kingdom I realize that the use of demonyms in categories is a bad idea. Thus I propose to rename all subcategories in Category:Law by country. @James500, Laurel Lodged, and Peterkingiron: pinging editors from the old discussion. Thesmp (talk) 16:17, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- Comment: that's a big project. Have a think about "in" or "of", which is currently inconsistent both within Law by country and within e.g. Law of the United Kingdom. – Fayenatic London 23:03, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- There is a single law "of" the United Kingdom given that there are three different legal jurisdictions (England & Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) so I would suggest "in". This would also account for any other country with multiple jurisdictions and for laws that are more localised than an entire country or jurisdiction. Thryduulf (talk) 12:54, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- When I said it's a big project, I was thinking of the further layers e.g. within Category:Law by country by year, and within Category:Law by issue and country (which mostly use "in").
- @Thesmp: thanks for tagging the layer that you proposed. If this gains support, please also list them with target names, as the list will be needed to implement the decision. – Fayenatic London 23:13, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
- Comment: Previous CfD at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2014 July 2#Category:Fooian law. --Paul_012 (talk) 16:38, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- Support, following naming convention in article space e.g. Law of the United States. After 7 years, since the previous discussion, the article still has not changed its name, so that it can be regarded a stable name. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:24, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- Rename but to Category:Law in the United States etc. The US has well over 50 jurisdictions each with its own law - Federal law, law of to States and about 6 districts and territories. Similarly UK has 3 (or 4) jurisdictions each with its own law. Category:Law of France would be OK, as I think it has a single law code. Peterkingiron (talk) 17:03, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
- Law of the United States comprises both federal law and state law, so "of" is correct here. This may be different in the United Kingdom though. Marcocapelle (talk) 22:00, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
- Support the rename of the subcategories for countries that are presently sovereign states (therefore not including provinces, dependencies or former countries), such as Category:French law, to Category:Law of France etc (using the English short name of those countries). These categories are supposed to be categories for the law of particular countries. Some of them, however, have names that seem to refer to the law of places (such as former colonies) that do not seem to be part of those countries. For example, a number of sources say that there is "French law" in Louisiana [1] [2] and Quebec [3] [4]. The existing Category:French law should be renamed to Category:Law of France. Then any articles that we have about "French law" in Louisiana or Quebec or (presumably) former colonies of France etc should be placed in the new Category:French law. If no such articles yet exist, then Category:French law should be redirected to Category:Law of France until such articles are created. Similarly, other sources say that there is "Spanish law" in Texas, and, accordingly, we should deal with Category:Spanish law in the same way. Someone would need to actually carry out any reorganization that would be rendered necessary by the renames. I suspect that this would require a large amount of careful examination of sources to determine exactly what should be included in what category. I oppose Peterkingiron's proposal for similar reasons to those that I gave at the previous CfD that began on 15 February. James500 (talk) 06:39, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
- Support per Marcocapelle and James500. Also @Thesmp, James500, Laurel Lodged, Peterkingiron, Fayenatic london, and Thryduulf: because I listed all target names. If you agree in principle, but do not agree on any country, then cross it out, then we can discuss those separately. --Heanor (talk) 16:38, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
- Support, specifically because the articles are at Law of the United States and Law of France which is a clear C2D. Support moving all to the same title and not picking and choosing which go where. Also, note that both France and the UK (Law of the United Kingdom) have their articles as "Law of...". --Gonnym (talk) 08:27, 7 March 2022 (UTC)

- Propose merging Category:Naturalised tennis players of Kazakhstan to Category:Naturalised citizens of Kazakhstan, Category:Naturalised tennis players (added on relisting)
Nominator's rationale: No need for such a specific category. Same applies for the other subcategories of Category:Naturalised tennis players by nationality. Nehme1499 19:25, 8 January 2022 (UTC)

- Propose renaming Category:States with limited recognition to Category:De facto states
- Nominator's rationale: I propose to rename not only this categories, but all subcategories. Now this categories also includes UN member states not recognised by at least one UN member state, i. e. Israel, China, Armenia, Cyprus, South and North Koreas. But subcategories are mostly only for de facto states, this branch are parallel to Category:Categories by country for UN member states. Thesmp (talk) 08:56, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- Strongly Oppose It directly states at the top of the category that: "The main article for this category is List of states with limited recognition." Renaming it to Category:De facto states would not make any sense, as the only entries within the category are "states with limited recognition", as the article defines them. Israel, China, Armenia, Cyprus, South Korea, and North Korea are all within the present category anyway. De facto states, as an article, does not even exist,
and the De facto state page is just a redirect to the aforementioned list article.Propose renaming the article before proposing that the category gets renamed. - Wiz9999 (talk) 10:22, 23 February 2022 (UTC)- Wiz9999, I didn't get my point, I'm perfectly OK with the title List of states with limited recognition. Israel, China, Armenia, Cyprus, South Korea, and North Korea shoule be in this list because they enjoy only limited recognition. I'm talking about subcategories of Category:States with limited recognition, i. e. Category:Coats of arms of unrecognized or largely unrecognized states, Category:Constitutions of unrecognized or largely unrecognized states, Category:Geography by states with limited recognition etc. Should they contain all states with limited recognition, including Israel, China, Armenia, Cyprus, South and North Koreas? --Thesmp (talk) 10:33, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- I don't see why not. Israel, China, Armenia, Cyprus, South Korea, and North Korea are all states with limited recognition. This wording: "of unrecognized or largely unrecognized states" is from an old category (Category:Unrecognized or largely unrecognized states) that was recently put up for deletion, as all its entries were migrated into the more appropriately worded Category:States with limited recognition. If anything, it's all those subcategories that need renaming now, to "of states with limited recognition". - Wiz9999 (talk) 10:45, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

- Oppose Agree with Wiz9999, apart from points made by him, it is clear that Israel and China, for example, are de jure states and not merely de facto. It is better to follow the main article divisions for these things without further subdivision.Selfstudier (talk) 11:15, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- Wiz9999, Selfstudier I do not insist, that it is why I opened this discussion. Just to clarify what I proposed: rename category and remove Israel, China, Armenia, Cyprus, South and North Koreas from it and all subcategories. --Thesmp (talk) 12:52, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

- Oppose. The current category name captures the intended meaning very well. "De facto", on the other hand, would be fairly confusing. — kashmīrī TALK 21:07, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose - the current title is fine, per WP:BROKE. As mentioned above "de facto" could be confusing in some situations. Inter&anthro (talk) 03:38, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose, outside maybe the occasional edge case, most states are de facto states, so this isn't the best name for the category. CMD (talk) 08:16, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
