complications from dementia?

[edit]

I don't have access to The NY Times obit being used in this article, but this article cites it in two places, and they seem to contradict each other. One says he died from complications of dementia. The other says he continued to perform until the spring of 2024. So, he was performing with heavy onset of dementia? Kingturtle = (talk) 04:45, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at this; it is the Washington Post, with which I will be replacing the NY Post reference to clear confusion, who talks about dementia, saying:
"(...) died Dec. 10 at an assisted-living center in Wayne, New Jersey. He was 89.
The cause was complications from dementia, said Meir Yedid, a friend."
The NY Post does not give a cause of death, echoing the widely-covered obituary with:
"(...) died on Tuesday in New Jersey. He was 89.
Ryan Galway, his former road manager and close friend, said that Mr. Kreskin had died in his home in Caldwell, N.J. He did not name the cause of death."
But well, returning to what you said, it indeed causes contradiction. Because the statement that he performed until spring 2024 is unsourced and probably false. In the NY Times citation, Kreskin is quoted as saying: "[I will retire] exactly 10 days after I drop dead". The quote first seemingly appears in 2006, getting repeated with small changes a few times until 2017, before posthumous appearances. So unless there is strong evidence that he performed until a few months before his death, it is false and should be changed/removed. I am thinking of changing that statement with:
"As of 2019, Kreskin continued to perform around the U.S.DC Theatre Arts When asked when he was going to retire, Kreskin said: 'Exactly 10 days after I drop dead'."
Well, checking it out again; I guess the assertion that he performed until a few months before his death is based on this quote, shared by his former road manager Ryan Galway upon his death:
"Kreskin continued to make live appearances well into his 80s, and only stopped earlier this year after injuring himself in a fall."ABC News
What do you think? What should be done? Erksahin (talk) 08:34, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The New York Times article says: "Though he continued to perform until this spring, Mr. Kreskin’s star has been on the decline since the 1970s."[1] His last scheduled performance was March 7, 2024 - a Zoom "pendulum seminar".[2]. He appeared in a video promoting it here.[3]. His last TV appearance that I could find, (making a Superbowl prediction), was in May 2023.[4]. His last recorded video log was posted and apparently recorded 9 months ago. See youtu.be/OLzgz5D7Tg0 According to the Associated Press: "[Kreskin friend Ryan] Galway said that Kreskin continued to make live appearances well into his 80s, and only stopped earlier this year after injuring himself in a fall."[5] Dementia is not a uniform condition, it takes many forms and some people may have good days and bad days. Kreskin’s dementia may have either not been as pronounced or was such that he was still having days good enough to perform until 2023 or early 2024. In any case, there are reliable sources - the New York Times and AP - which say he was performing until earler this year. Wellington Bay (talk) 09:14, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Will reword the said statement accordingly, thanks for your contribution. Erksahin (talk) 09:40, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

peaked in the 1970s?

[edit]

I know The NY Times article says he peaked in the 1970s, but I hope we can find sources that say it was later, because he was all over the place in the 1980s and 1990s. I mean 100 times on Regis & Kathy isn't exactly a guy who peaked long ago. Kingturtle = (talk) 14:52, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

He was definitely bigger in the 70s with a TV series and dozens of appearances on Carson. He was still notable in the 80s but not as much. Being on Regis (and even Letterman in the 80s) doesnt compare to Carson. Wellington Bay (talk) 15:17, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
