Editor conflict

[edit]

I have been adding more current photos I’ve taken of subjects and places in Sheboygan but User:Mrschimpf has reverted several of those edits, falsely claiming I’m some such of competitor in local media in Sheboygan which I don’t own any interests in media publishing in Sheboygan County. In one edit on Shoreline Metro, my photo of a bus in service was removed because he claimed permissions were questionable and the photo was posed. Then there is the challenge of updating the photo on Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Asher Heimermann (talk

Bearcat,

Please link me to this wikipedia elections policy in which you discussed on my talk page.

Thanks!

You declined this draft, but I made changes to it that I think solved the initial issue. If you could take another look and give me some feedback I would be appreciative. Thanks for your time. WUH34 (talk) 4:45, 24 March 2022 (UTC)

help with vandalism

[edit]

Since November 16, 2022, a user who is not logged in, just identified by their IP address has been adding information to the San Antonio FC page that has no sources to back it up with. Specifically they are adding a player to the roster when there is no evidence on the internet, either by the club, league, or anywhere else that this transaction has occurred. I have undone the edit multiple times but they keep adding it back. Please assist.

1/13/23 - The vandalism is occurring again. Would you be able to ban the IP addresses that are adding the incorrect information? TYIA

Hi world!

We are using the Sandbox. In the article we are working on, this link must be consider: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instituto_Aeroespacial_de_El_Salvador

From the article/page we select the phrase "El Salvador Aerospace Institute (ESAI)" as the place where we want to link the page/article.

However, whenever we try to use/paste the link in feature tool box it gives us a link with an arrow in the corner but we just want "the blue text" link. We already tried also the word: Instituto Aeroespacial de El Salvador which is the word that appears below in the link of the page/article: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instituto_Aeroespacial_de_El_Salvador

but again, it does not work at all.

Could you please advice us what to do to get only a blue color link without the arrow at the end of the link?

Many thanks! Gaby273827362863 (talk) 06:41, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism

[edit]

The article Hellenistic Palestine was extensively vandalised on 1 November, part of its text was replaced by nationalist propaganda. Out of all of this, your only comment and change was in the article's categories instead of reverting the vandalism? Dimadick (talk) 22:08, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You may use this tool next time instead of deleting categories like you did in Rajakili. Or the redirect Template:Draft cats. Kailash29792 (talk) 11:39, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:04, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Predmestky Festival has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unreferenced and unimproved 15 years. No sources are available on line.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Tom Flood

[edit]

Bearcat, I draw your attention to this article, as you are one of the last substantive editors apart from myself to have contributed to the article. The article was written by Percy Middlemiss in 2008. It was well out of date so I updated it last January. Certain editors have incorrectly claimed I have a CoI on this article (I was the landlady of his brother for a short period, but have no connection whatsoever to the subject). It never occurred to me that this would be used as an excuse to delete the article, otherwise I would not have bothered to make changes. This will certainly happen in 7 days unless some editor saves it. If I do it myself I may once again be accused of a CoI. I dont know if you have noticed but there is an extreme shortage of editors. So I am requesting that you save the article. Tom Flood won all of Australia's major literary awards with his novel Oceana Fine, so he is extremely notable.

Of course the article needs some quick work to clean it up (plus a message to the subject that he should not be using it as a personal website, it's an encyclopedia. Clearly, no-one has warned him). Evadeluge (talk) 13:36, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Background is here [4].
Some very serious concerns have been raised re: the editing patterns of 2 accounts (including the user directly above). I would very strongly advise against being canvassed to act as a proxy for a user who is almost certainly going to be site blocked in the near future. Axad12 (talk) 13:39, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My "contribution" to the article, such as it was, was to simply move the article from Category:20th-century male writers to Category:20th-century Australian male writers, as part of a batch job I gnomed through in 2018, and I've never otherwise touched the article at all before or since and didn't change one word of its content. What about that implies that I would have anything remotely useful to contribute to this matter now? Bearcat (talk) 14:10, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

California county-level coord missing tags

[edit]

Thanks for spotting these, and reverting them back to the state-level tags; I hadn't noticed that the categories had gone away until someone told me. I've modified the bot scripts so it won't be generating any more county-level coord missing tags. — The Anome (talk) 15:54, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Arjun Basu

[edit]

FYI the author Arjun Basu is publicly stating on Bluesky that he wants you to update the page. wizzito | say hello! 20:32, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That's not actually how Wikipedia works. If the article is outdated then anybody can update it, and it isn't automatically my job to personally stay on top of it in perpetuity just because I started the article. I got there because I always fill in any and all Giller Prize nominees who didn't already have articles yet — so my operative interest was "Giller Prize", not "special personal knowledge about Arjun Basu's career specifically". Therefore, any content that's still missing from it is free for anybody to add, and it isn't necessarily my personal responsibility to always stay on top of it myself.
And no, that's not a personal dis to him, either, because I've started articles about lots of other Giller Prize nominees without knowing much more about their careers than "person who got a Giller nomination" or taking on direct personal responsibility for the permanent maintenance and updating of their articles either. Once the article is in place, it belongs to the Wikipedia community rather than to me personally, so anybody can update it rather than it necessarily being my job to stay on top of updating it for the rest of my life. Bearcat (talk) 21:58, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You are 100% correct here btw. Just wanted you to know. wizzito | say hello! 23:13, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is indeed a shame that some topics go completely ignored by editors simply because of a lack of interest. I also feel a need to keep the pages I created up to date, but often others don't seem to have the same interest. e.g. one of the suspect's deaths at Circle of Hope Girls Ranch wasn't on the page for months and I had to eventually step in and edit it. Same goes for George Williams College - nobody took interest to add that the campus closed after I did so about 6 months later. wizzito | say hello! 23:15, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism or good faith?

[edit]

Don't worry, this is about another editor. I just noticed an odd edit on I. M. Yost that immediately preceeded your most recent edit on that page that removed red category links.

Did you not see anything else odd with that page? The preceeding edit made a number of changes the strike me as non-standard at best. That edit was also the source of the red links you removed. At best this seems to be someone who knows older markup and no templates.

I haven't decided what I will do about this tomorrow morning. Simply revert, overwrite, or engage the editor in Good Faith. The enumerated TOC certainly is not a new standard I missed?

Gary King (radio presenter)

[edit]

Dear Ldm1954, I'm sorry I removed the notability tag from Gary King (radio presenter) inappropriately. I found it frustrating that the peer review had received no responses (it still hasn't, which is puzzling, given Gary King being quite famous), and I genuinely thought that I made the article meet the notability criteria, because I made quite a lot of changes. I recognise that I failed to act appropriately. Can I perhaps receive more clarification on what needs to happen for the article to meet the notability criteria? And are there any other ways the article can be improved? The article is relatively on the short side - should you want to think about reading through it. Thank you. Categories on drafts

Election categorisation

[edit]

Hello Bearcat. Could you please stop moving national elections out of continental election categories. IMO the continental election categories are a non-diffusing category for national elections – it is incredibly unhelpful to not have national elections in the continental categories and have to search down another level if you want to find out in which countries national elections were held that year. This is the reason they are duplicated in both categories. Thanks, Number 57 17:05, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I can’t tell if this is spam or an unfinished sandbox/ second copy of a page that I’ve proposed for deleting. Bearian (talk) 14:45, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
