At-large fixing

[edit]

Copied from the AWB tasks discussion:

Thanks! If you'd like to do more, with "At-large" in other contexts, take a look at this search, which is mostly in the title bar of infoboxes. Or these in links from templates such as Main and Further. Or these in a common text phrase. Dicklyon (talk) 16:42, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also these, but be careful as a few are in reference titles and such that should be left in title case. Dicklyon (talk) 16:44, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And these, too. Dicklyon (talk) 17:00, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that, will go through this once I get time. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 04:45, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request for reconsideration of requested move discussion closure

[edit]

Hi there! I am writing regarding the closure of the Requested Move discussion for Městský fotbalový stadion Miroslava Valenty → Miroslav Valenta Municipal Football Stadium, Městský stadion (Ostrava) → Municipal Stadium (Ostrava), and Městský stadion (Karviná) → Municipal Stadium (Karviná). Despite strong support for the proposal, with opposition limited to a Czech editor opposed to WP:UE and one unsubstantiated objection, the discussion was closed by you as "no consensus." This decision appears inconsistent with the arguments favoring accessibility through English titles per WP:UE. I request that the discussion be reopened or reconsidered to allow for a more accurate evaluation of consensus and policy alignment. Paradygmaty (talk) 21:44, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Paradygmaty, I did not close the discussion. Due a lack of clear consensus, I just WP:RMRELIST the discussion on 6th December. The final closing was done by @Compassionate727:. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 01:51, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This decision appears inconsistent with the arguments favoring accessibility through English titles per WP:UE. This misunderstands UE. UE says that we favor the name used by English-language sources, whatever language that name may be in. The evidence provided in the discussion wasn't super conclusive, but as far as it goes, it shows that English-language sources frequently use the Czech name instead of an English translation. Compassionate727 (T·C) 01:55, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies @Bunnypranav for mistakenly addressing my previous message to you. To maintain continuity, I’ll reply @Compassionate727 here. Regarding your explanation, I would like to clarify how your interpretation aligns with the following part of the policy: In deciding whether and how to translate a foreign name into English, follow English-language usage. If there is no established English-language treatment for a name, translate it if this can be done without loss of accuracy and with greater understanding for the English-speaking reader. This section suggests that in cases without a clearly established English-language usage, translation should be preferred if it aids understanding for English-speaking readers. The policy also emphasizes consistency, as seen in cases where lesser-known entities are translated similarly to well-known ones of the same type. Given that "municipal stadium" is a widely recognized translation and aligns with English-speaking readers’ expectations for accessibility, the decision to retain the untranslated Czech names seems contrary to this guidance. Could you provide further insight into how this policy was applied in this instance? Paradygmaty (talk) 11:17, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Compassionate727 could you move this entire section to your talk? As I do not have any involvement with this. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 11:19, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Minzdaniel89 (13:19, 14 December 2024)

[edit]

Hello,

I am a Portuguese scientist, living in London, whose goal is to create profiles for world-renowned scientists who are not on Wikipedia.

Can you help with that?

Hey @Minzdaniel89, and welcome to Wikipedia! If you want to create new article, have a look at Help:Your first article for some basic guidelines and policies we have to follow. Consider developing a Wikipedia:Drafts article first. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 13:23, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from ShareKnowledge Canada (15:06, 14 December 2024)

[edit]

Hi. I have written an autobiography as a door-to-door salesman from age 8 until I retired in 2011. I would like to have a placement on your service to ensure its longevity when I am gone. How do I accomplish this? My book can be seen on my website at tonyhebert.com. It's free so there is no monetary gain for me I am merely supplying many life lessons I learned to help our youth and others as they also strive for success in life. My book is called "Finding My Power of Want". No other books like it anywhere explore this underlying life motivation. I look forward to your response. Tony --ShareKnowledge Canada (talk) 15:06, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @ShareKnowledge Canada,
Autobiographies are often discouraged on Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:Autobiography and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest.
If you still want to publish your article and are confident it follows the policies of Wikipedia:Notability (people), Wikipedia:Reliable sources, Wikipedia:No original research, use the Wikipedia:Article wizard and submit a draft. A uninvolved reviewer then may or may not accept it depending on its content. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 15:11, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! ShareKnowledge Canada (talk) 20:24, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Alternate titling during RM discussions

[edit]

Hi there. During your relisting you proffered a different title that was already part of the original nom. May I suggest that you should avoid closing this discussion if you make such a question as it can appear as a form of a super vote. Mentioning this isn’t a bad idea, as sometimes when relishing you can see consensus leaning a specific way and want to call attention to it, but even in those cases I would discourage you from closing as it introduces your relisting comment as now being an involved editor versus uninvolved.
