The EU at the UN Climate Change Conference

About the conference

As part of its efforts towards achieving global climate neutrality, the European Commission takes part in the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Since 1995, the United Nations Climate Change Conferences bring parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

In previous editions, the EU helped to achieve a range of milestones and agreements including

  • reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 43% by 2030

  • establishing new funding to assist developing countries that are particularly affected by climate change

  • encouraging major emitters to set new emission reduction targets

  • proposing new rules to boost international carbon markets
