Fitbit Ionic not tracking miles correctly on walking pad

I have a walking pad. I walk during the day while I work. My Fitbit tells me I walk approximately 20,000 to 22,000 steps a day. However, it also says I only walk approximately 3 miles and burn approximately 1700 cal. This cannot possibly be correct. Why is this so off?
