Last week, we were at the 5th German-African Business Summit (GABS) 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya, and what a time it was🤩! We were honoured to share the StArfrica journey, engage in some of the panel discussions, and have our "10 Faces Changing Africa" documentary spotlighted at the event💥. Another highlight was the spotlight on Green Meter, the first African EXIST Business Startup Grant recipients through StArfrica, who wowed the audience with their innovative solution to reduce digital carbon emissions💫. As Phyian Karinge of agriBORA aptly put it: "African startups are overtrained and underfunded." This highlights the need for stronger partnerships and equitable support. We are beyond thrilled to introduce our pioneering team from Rwanda, ‘GreenMeter'—the first-ever African entrepreneurs selected for the prestigious EXIST Business Startup Grant to bring their bold ideas to life here in Germany! This dynamic trio has navigated a rigorous selection journey through our StArfrica Incubator Programme, and for the next year, they'll be pushing boundaries, developing their unique ideas, and driving innovation. Not only are they the first African team, but their project on the sustainable use of the internet is the first of its kind set to create ripples of change across industries worldwide. It’s been show time 🤩 for the GreenMeter team from Rwanda ever since they arrived in Germany on the EXIST - Existenzgründungen aus der Wissenschaft Business Startup Grant. Part of the GreenMeter team, accompanied by our own Derrick S. Vormawor (co-project lead at StArfrica), attended this year’s AiDiA - Afrodeutscher Startup Pitch event in Hamburg.✨ It is important to see how the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Germany is beginning to evolve and how the need to foster a cross-continental entrepreneurial collaboration is being taken seriously. The team networked with other innovative entrepreneurs in Germany, learned a lot from the pitches, and has already started building an initial list of potential clients for their innovative solution. While they develop their innovative solution to bring carbon emissions to close to zero in Germany, these events are a great way to prepare them for the challenge and success ahead😀🤩.
