Science & Policy for People & Nature: Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services | #Biodiversity
Info
The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is an independent intergovernmental body, established by member States in 2012. It provides policymakers with objective scientific assessments about the state of knowledge regarding the planet’s biodiversity, ecosystems and the benefits they provide to people, as well as the tools and methods to protect and sustainably use these vital natural assets. Our mission is to strengthen knowledge foundations for better policy through science, for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, long-term human well-being and sustainable development. The work of IPBES can be broadly grouped into four complementary areas: • Assessments: On specific themes (e.g. “Pollinators, Pollination and Food Production”); methodological issues (e.g. Scenarios and Modelling); and at both the regional and global levels (“Global Assessment on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services”). • Policy Support: Identifying policy-relevant tools and methodologies, facilitating their use, and catalyzing their further development. • Building Capacity & Knowledge: Identifying and meeting the priority capacity, knowledge and data needs of our member States, experts and stakeholders. • Communications & Outreach: Ensuring the widest reach and impact of our work.

What do insects do all winter? They are still all around us: in the bark of the trees and bushes, in the soil, and some may be attached to plants underneath the snow. Find out more about insect hibernation with TC Global ⤵️🗞️ https://lnkd.in/dsTMCHsx

IPBES hat dies direkt geteilt
Congratulations to all authors for releasing this groundbreaking IPBES report on the interlinkages among #biodiversity, water, food, #climate and #health. Biodiversity is our lifeline as it underpins clean water, nutritious food, climate stability, and protection from disease. Yet, this biodiversity is under siege, declining globally by 2-6% per decade. As ecosystems falter, so too does the foundation of human well-being. The consequences are real. When biodiversity diminishes, diseases emerge and spread more easily. Traditional medicines, crafted over centuries of knowledge, are lost alongside the plants and animals that sustain them. Even the simple, soothing presence of nature—a proven balm for mental health—becomes harder to find. Alarmingly, over 50 diseases today are directly linked to poor water quality and sanitation, both exacerbated by the erosion of healthy ecosystems. This is not a localized issue—it’s a global challenge. Unsustainable agricultural practices, pollution, and climate change are accelerating biodiversity loss. Transformative actions hold the promise of renewal. By weaving biodiversity conservation into sustainable food systems, adopting healthy diets that do not erode biodiversity, and restoring ecosystems, we can reverse the tide of biodiversity loss. These efforts create ripples of benefit—not just for the environment, but for human health, food security, and resilience to climate change.
