tourist destination

edit

I think it is somewhat of a stretch to consider Flin Flon even a 'moderate tourist destination". I don't know many people around Manitoba(specifically Winnipeg), that plan a vacation in Flin Flon, or many people that have even been there. Maybe we could add, "of the region" or "in Northern Manitoba" to the end of the sentence to better reflect the truth.207.161.47.99 22:31, 14 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think the "tourist destination" would refer to the hunting/fishing available in the area, mayinly from Americans--Kelapstick 02:26, 15 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I fail to see the connection between Flin Flon and marijuana production in Saskatoon. RedWolf 03:10, Sep 16, 2004 (UTC)

The government marijuana grow-op is in a mine under Flin Flon. Michael Z. 03:43, 2004 Oct 19 (UTC)

Flin Flon officially has city status. See [1] and [2]. Michael Z. 03:43, 2004 Oct 19 (UTC)

Should this page be moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba/Saskatchewan like Lloydminster, Alberta/Saskatchewan? Qutezuce 06:46, 20 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think not. Only a very small portion of Flin Flon Actually stardles the border (less than 10%, I believe) unlike Llodminster which stradles the boundary pretty close to 50/50 doesn't it? So while it may be accurate to call it Flin Flon, Manitoba/Saskatchewan, this would be one of the few places in the world where it would be. I tried Googling it as "Flin Flon Manitoba/Saskatchewan" with only 55 hits. I can tell you, the neither the government of Saskatchewan nor the City of Flin Flon and its residents promote Flin Flon as a city in Saskatchewan. I lived there for 30 years, and my family has been living there for over 60. Even though property taxes of residents on the Sask side of the border may be paid to Sask, the revenues are simply paid back to the city for municipal services, and residents there are billed by the city for infrastructure services like water and garbage.Weaponofmassinstruction 23:42, 25 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
However, creating Flin Flon, Manitoba/Saskatchewan and having it redirect here might be a good idea...?Weaponofmassinstruction 04:39, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thats fine. I wasn't necessarily promoted the idea of moving the page, I just wanted to bring up the issue on the discussion page to see why it is more associated with Manitoba. Qutezuce 05:22, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Requested move

edit

Flin Flon, ManitobaFlin FlonFlin Flon already redirects to Flin Flon, Manitoba. There are no other uses in Wikipedia. The city is actually partly in Saskatchewan. Usgnus 20:28, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

You man want to read the good convention again. According to the city naming conventions page and I quote Places which either have unique names or are unquestionably the most significant place sharing their name, such as Quebec City or Toronto, can have undisambiguated titles. This means that you will need to find a Flin Flon that is of equal notability to this one. Finally I don't believe in any way that having a good naming convention should prevent a page move due to an exception that the convention itself supports. --My old username 00:02, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

It would be nice if the people who agitated for this change would each clean up a few of the 50+ redirect links that have now been created. --Wtshymanski 16:08, 11 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Reminder

edit

One of the most useful (though of course far from essential) attributes for a Wikipedia editor, apart from large amounts of free time and an Internet connection, is some knowledge of the subject matter of the article he's working on. Thompson is 270 km east-north-east of Flin Flon, and INCO is a company unrelated to HBM&S. I also have a completely personal preference that, if there's a picture in the article and related text, the text and picture appear in the same screen. An encyclopedia is not a photo album and the illustrations are meant to explain, amplify and complement the text, not fill up space. And why does this article now link to 7000 different templates? --Wtshymanski (talk) 15:09, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Time zones and sales tax

edit

What is the status of the Saskatchewan side of the city with regards to time zones and sales tax? Is it a similar situation to Lloydminster where Alberta's time zone and sales tax rules stretch a small way into Saskatchewan to allow consistency for the entire city and immediate suburbs, only in this case with Manitoba? (Saskatchewan, for example, does not observe Daylight Savings Time, so which time zone does Flin Flon, Sask. follow and what about nearby Creighton?) 136.159.160.5 (talk) 18:38, 11 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Climate

edit

I wonder if the early record temperatures are sourced in Fahrenheit, given that all of the record lows and many of the record highs are within a tenth of a degree of being a whole number when measured in Fahrenheit, but not in Celsius. This is often a telltale sign of a Fahrenheit source that has been normalized to Celsius, with the back-conversion to F being slightly off because the scales dont match up perfectly. As for why the highs are not all like this, I can only suggest that, like nearby The Pas, this city has warmed up tremendously in just the last thirty years. Soap 16:30, 15 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

City map

The map shown is only the MB portion, and does not include the SK part of the city. That should ideally be added if possible. Nwebster84 (talk) 20:14, 12 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
