Initial feedback
editHey this is template is great, thanks for putting it together! I have tended to focus more on article content than organization and other meta-activity, so it is an area that has languished. This kind of thing is really helpful to the project. Sorry I missed the earlier request for feedback.
The only major additions I'd suggest are a section for "Splices" and perhaps also one for "Related subjects" or something like that... For the latter I'm thinking of articles like bight (knot), turn (knot), ropework, fid, marlinspike, rope, twine, etc.
I do have one concern, though... Is there any way to avoid having all the knot articles showing up in each other's "what links here" pages? The inclusion of this template seems to cause this behavior, if the few articles it has been added to are any indication. Being able to see only the "natural" links between articles is helpful when trying to properly link related knots to each other. If there's no way to prevent it, I guess that's just the way it'll be. :) But I figured I'd check to see if there was in fact a way to avoid the links in the template from polluting the natural linkages between the knotting articles... Thanks again. --Dfred (talk) 17:00, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for the feedback; you're very kind. Do feel free to add to (or subtract from!) the template - the reason I moved it into mainspace was precisely so other editors could change things they thought appropriate.
- Not sure about the "what links here" issue. I'm sure there must be some sort of markup code to prevent that from happening, so I'll have a read of the technical pages and see what I can find.
- I've also only put this navbox into a couple of articles so far, since I wasn't sure how well it would be received - it's quite large for a navbox, and might merit being split into several smaller ones (eg. "Hitches", "Splices", "Fixed loops" ect.) Any suggestions as to how to do that would be welcome; the current arrangement is based on Category:Knots. If you want to use {{Knots}} on other articles, by all means do!
- Not possible. Navboxes cause everything to link together. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 11:34, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's pretty much what I've found... Yunshui 雲水 11:38, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Bowline
editNot being a knots expert, I was puzzled that Bowline is not in this list. Since it's probably the second-most-famous knot, shouldn't it be in here under that name? 68.32.166.226 (talk) 03:07, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
