Spaces before <ref> tags

edit

Hello NintenBOUND! I noticed your recent edit to Mother (video game), and I thank you for including references to reliable sources. However, when adding those references, you included spaces before the <ref> tags. Per Wikipedia policy, this should be avoided. Don't worry, you're not in trouble! Image edits

Hi there. I've seen you make a bunch of edits related to video game screenshots and boxart lately. Wikipedia's Image Use Policy is a bit complicated, but I'd recommend slowing down and getting more familiar with it before doing too many more changes/additions, as it already looks like some of your work is being undone, and I think it'll keep happening...

In particular, since you're mostly working on video game related content, it would be good to read over WP:VGIMAGES and WP:VGBOX. You can always pose questions at WT:VG too. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 15:46, 26 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Whoops. I was updating images with ones that were a lower file size, since I know that on a huge site like Wikipedia, every KB of extra space probably counts, but thanks for correcting me on that count. I will give them a look-see when I have enough time. NintenBOUND (talk) 19:15, 26 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Just circling back on this, as either myself or some others have continued to revert your image additions. I know it's a lot to learn, so here's some general points:
  • Only add an image if it's discussed (preferably prominently) in the article.
  • Only add an image if it's something you can not summarize accurately with words.
  • Copyrighted images should be used in a limited fashion, and generally no more than one game cover/icon/art should be used per article.
If you have a scenario that doesn't follow these points, it's not likely to stay in the article for long. So again, please be more careful/sekective. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 19:49, 3 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for notifying me about this. I looked at the links you sent me, and I didn't see anything that led me to believe what I was doing was wrong; now I realized you meant more than just my box art revisions. I will be sure to discuss my potential revisions in the future. NintenBOUND (talk) 01:05, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'm beginning to lose my patience a bit here, as this is starting to feel a bit like lip service. We can't have editors just going around switching their images strictly on their own personal preference like you've done with File:Supermushroom.png. Discussions don't do any good if you don't advance any argument or even wait for anyone to respond anyways.
Please slow down and figure this stuff first. If you don't do it if your own accord, it could end up being enforced by a temporary block to your account, so please listen to what I'm saying. Sergecross73 msg me 21:58, 6 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
It was not lip service. I didn't understand why most of the Mario images were converted to line art, but specific ones weren't. I thought that if a widespread change was going to be enacted, then it would be consistent if as many images in the series conformed to that specific style. I recognize that I should have waited for an agreement to be reached on the image, however, and I will be more patient in waiting for responses from other people from now on. Thank you for your time. Hey there, I've been noticing your suggestions for adding alternate images in a bunch of articles, such as Talk:Mario, Talk:Luigi, and Talk:Yoshi. All of these alternates boil down to palette swaps, which can be succinctly described in text. Please remember that we try to keep non-free images in articles to a minimum and we should pick the best ones to represent the subject that cannot be communicated in text alone. Palette swaps are not a good use of this limited resource. Please re-regard Sergecross's advice above for guidelines on images. Thanks! --ThomasO1989 (talk) 20:02, 22 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
