Looks like all the calendar dates listed are wrong. They're off by approx one year. See <https://www.travelchinaguide.com/essential/holidays/laba.htm>. This page might be the source of the problem, because of the way it's listing "lunar years". The correct upcoming date is January 20, 2021, but I can't understand how to edit the dates in the template.

Also, not sure how the template should look for 2022, since Laba will occur twice (January and December) in western calendar year 2022 and then never in 2023. – Greg Pandatshang (talk) 02:53, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

We should provide a list of the dates of Laba through the entire current sexagenary cycle. It can be computed from the dates here or here by adding 7 to the Gregorian dates of the 1st days of the 12th lunar months.

In any case, we should provide the range of possible values. From the sources above, it looks like the current earliest possible date for Laba is 30 December (as in 2022) and the latest possible date is 28 January (as in 1984). The 2nd source offers that it might be earlier by one day in 2098 & 2185 but they can't be sure owing to possible variance in the observation of the moon over the period.

It might be more complicated than that, though, since both ChineseCalendarOnline and YourChineseAstrology misdate (?) the 2022 Laba Festival to 10 January. Contemporary sources like Global Times, however, show that the other calculation was correct; presumably these websites are screwing up some calculations in years with intercalary months. — LlywelynII 14:26, 8 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
