Citations

[edit]

I mainly do citation cleanup/improvement on articles, namely things like formatting, adding information, improving existing information, recovering dead URLs, etc. I especially like to combat link rot. Citations are one of the main reasons people can utilize Wikipedia in serious academic settings, and they function as the backbone of the entire article, but oftentimes these citations lead to dead URLs, contain minimal information that provides little help in finding the source, have wildly different styles within the same article, or are generally cumbersome to read, and seeing good articles complemented by good citations is really satisfying. Something I like about doing this is that I don't have to know much about the subject to clean up citations, so I can cover a breadth of interesting articles.

For the love of all that's good, please don't use MSN.com unless it's the original source; it goes dead within like a few months, and then we just have to find the original source anyway. This is somewhat similar with Yahoo! News, except that those typically at least stay up for some years.

Taxonomy

[edit]

More recently, I've started creating articles for species that don't yet have an article. I've found that every one I've come across so far has at least some literature written about it, and even if the article begins as a stub, the direct access to cited references and to other resources makes it useful.

Review

[edit]

I do new-article and GA review. Regarding new-article review, I predominantly do retro video games.

Teahouse

[edit]

I sometimes help out at Wikipedia's Teahouse, which is an excellent resource for new and experienced editors alike.
