Coming back
So I kind of dropped off the face of Wikipedia for a while, but I'm interested in coming back. Obviously I missed Cole Hamels becoming a GA, but if there's any way we can finally collaborate again I would be definitely up for it. :) öBrambleberry of RiverClan 21:32, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Brambleberry! Welcome back - missed you ... yup, Hamels became a GA, and presently John Mayberry, Jr. and Cody Asche are GA candidates. I am in the midst of working on Carlos Ruiz, and you are more than welcome to help there. Do you have another Phils' player in mind? Go Phightins! 21:34, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
- I signed up for Cliff Lee in the Phillies player GA chart thing, and I can not only help out with Ruiz but also maybe fix some things in Mayberry and Asche. öBrambleberry of RiverClan 22:04, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

WikiCup 2014 March newsletter
A quick update as we are half way through round two of this year's competition. WikiCup newcomer Godot13 (submissions) (Pool E) leads, having produced a massive set of featured pictures for Silver certificate (United States), an article also brought to featured list status. Former finalist Adam Cuerden (submissions) (Pool G) is in second, which he owes mostly to his work with historical images, including a number of images from Urania's Mirror, an article also brought to good status. 2010 champion (Pool C) is third overall, thanks to contributions relating to naval history, including the newly featured Japanese battleship Nagato. Cliftonian (submissions), who currently leads Pool A and is sixth overall, takes the title for the highest scoring individual article of the competition so far, with the top importance featured article Ian Smith.
With 26 people having already scored over 100 points, it is likely that well over 100 points will be needed to secure a place in round 3. Recent years have required 123 (2013), 65 (2012), 41 (2011) and 100 (2010). Remember that only 64 will progress to round 3 at the end of April. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page; if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! season article
Man if you keep writing so much about each game the page will be humungous... I tend to limit myself to one or two sentences per game unless something really important happens. Also, not sure you need the whole opening day roster listed... The standard for these pages is that once the season ends we put a roster on the page that shows everyone that played for the team during the season. (see any previous season page).. and then just list the opening day starters not the whole lineup.. Sure you can add more stuff to it but I've been doing these season articles for a number of years so i thought i'd give you my thoughts on it. Spanneraol (talk) 22:34, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the thoughts. The reason I added comments on today's lineup was that it likely was the first game of a trend that will last the whole season in which Ryno platoons players in and out, and I thought this might be a good extreme example. Over time, as mentioned, much will be cut. Go Phightins! 22:37, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

WikiCup error
Hi there- this is just a quick note to apologise for a small but important mistake in the last WikiCup newsletter; it is not 64 users who will progress to the next round, but 32. J Milburn (talk) 18:55, 3 April 2014 (UTC)
DYK for David Buchanan (baseball)
On 4 April 2014, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article David Buchanan (baseball), which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Philadelphia Phillies pitcher David Buchanan has drawn comparisons to teammate Kyle Kendrick because both have been overlooked during their development? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/David Buchanan (baseball). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

Font in edit interface
I have noticed the font in the edit interface does not change whether I have Monobook skin or Vector+Gadget. You posted to Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) that you fixed it, "it had something to do with the override also reverting the interface font." How do I fix interface font? Lyryn talk 02:01, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
- Hi! This edit did the trick. Go Phightins! 02:15, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
- I don't know how to do that stuff. I copied your common.js to mine and the interface font got bigger without changing style. Thanks anyway! Techno-noob Lyryn talk 02:27, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
- In all honesty, I don't either. Writ Keeper, however, does. Hey Writ Keeper, could you possibly help Lyryn? Go Phightins! 02:31, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
- Possibly, though I don't have much time at the moment. I'm not really sure what the problem is, though. What is it that you're seeing? I usually see the font in an edit box as a monospaced font (like Courier New), regardless of the skin I'm using. How does it look to you? Like an Arial-type font (that is, similar to the font in the final page)? Writ Keeper ⚇♔ 03:22, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the help, but the Vector+gadget combo works now. Previously, the edit window's font looked like whatever font Vector is using: the gadget wasn't changing the fonts in the interface, just the reading bits. It was very not pretty. But it's all good now. Thanks again. Lyryn talk 04:32, 5 April 2014 (UTC)

Madison Bumgarner
Much as I hate to have GA nominees fail, thanks to your concerns I was able to find A LOT of personal information on Bumgarner. I was wondering if you would mind giving the article another look now that I have renominated it. Thank you, Sanfranciscogiants17 (talk) 11:06, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
- Absolutely; will do within next few days. Phightins is Gone (talk) 14:18, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

DYK for Darin Ruf
On 8 April 2014, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Darin Ruf, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that when Philadelphia Phillies player Darin Ruf was in the minor leagues, his team sold shirts that said "Babe Ruf"? Adoptees
Hi GP. I spotted a comment you made at WT:WER to the effect that you hadn't been asked to adopt anyone for a while - I've got the opposite problem, in that people keep asking me to adopt them and I really don't have the time to do so effectively at present. Seems to me our problems might cancel each other out... If you'd like to talk to User:ForrestLyle, User:Jakesyl and User:Masssly about adopting them, I'm sure they'd be appreciative. If it's okay with you, I'll consider pointing future requests in your direction too... Yunshui 雲水 12:54, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
- I am not sure I will approach all of them - I generally can stay organized and handle no more than 2 adoptees at once - but I will certainly see what I can do. And you are always welcome to send potential adoptees my way, though I cannot always guarantee that I will be able to take them. Thanks! Phightins is Gone (talk) 14:18, 7 April 2014 (UTC).
- Hi GP and Yunshui. I reached out to a couple of people for adoption when I first arrived here but after spending some time lurking around I think I have enough resources to sail alone.I was involved in a conversation on adoption here (Adoption Suggestion) that was a little enlightening and I also got quite a lot of help from the Wikipedia:Teahouse. Thank you though Yunshui for passing my contact on.ForrestLyle (talk) 15:25, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
- ForrestLyle - If you do not feel you need adoption right now, that is up to you, but my course sort of doubles as an "intro to wiki-policy/practice" if that interests you. Check it out at the link I gave to Jakesyl below, and if you would like, I can take you on right now too. It's entirely up to you. Happy editing! Go Phightins! 21:11, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
- Go Phightins! - I would love for you to take me on! I can start immediately. Thank you for taking the time, I am very excited! ForrestLyle (talk) 17:24, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
- ForrestLyle - Your adoption headquarters is here. This is where we will run the course, so post anything and everything relating to adoption on that page. We can begin when you're ready :-) Go Phightins! 19:06, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

I’m not really sure where to reply to this, or if i should, or where we would “Talk” I would love to be adopted, I think Wikipedia’s an excellent place and would love to help out. `jakesy`

- Hi, Jakesyl. Replying right here is fine. Peruse my adoption course and let me know what you think. Depending on your experience (and I have not done much digging just yet), I sometimes suggest that more experienced editors take only the lessons they need, and then the final exam. New editors, however, should probably do the whole course. It is all at your own pace (if you work at a quick pace, it should not take more than a month, but can take up to three months, depending on how active you are). In any case, let me know what you think, and if you would like to, I am more than willing to take on an adoptee or two right now. Go Phightins! 21:11, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
