Use of FFD template at File:Carloine Mulroney.jpg
[edit]Hi, please don't add an FFD template if there is no discussion actually taking place at FFD. Instructions on how to list a file for discussion can be found at WP:FFD.
Also I should add that there are no current freely available images of Caroline Mulroney, at least none at currently available sources. If you know where there is a freely available image of Mulroney please let me know so it can go to Wikimedia Commons! RA0808 talkcontribs 14:54, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
- Hi, RA0808 talk, Thanks for the heads up. I just left a question on your talk page which I think you have answered here. Also her name is misspelled on the image file, is that something I can correct? best wishes, Nocturnalnow (talk) 15:02, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for your message, I'm going to respond to both here if that's ok! I understand it may not seem fair about Mulroney's image having a campaign photo, but Wikipedia and all other Wikimedia Foundation projects have a policy to always use free images (i.e. Creative Commons licensed or public domain) over non-free (i.e. copyrighted) images. The photo of Doug Ford currently used in the article is a free image (licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 2.0) that can be used freely by anyone as long as it is attributed, while his campaign photo is legally copyrighted to his campaign. On Wikipedia we only use copyrighted non-free images under terms of fair use as a last resort.
- As for the typo in the file name, I have already placed a template requesting the typo be corrected by the next available File Mover or Administrator. RA0808 talkcontribs 15:08, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
- Also, while formatting my name perfectly is quite flattering, you might find it easier to tag a user using the {{ping|<username here>}} template. RA0808 talkcontribs 15:11, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
- lol, ok, @RA0808: thanks for that as I am always trying to tag a User the way I tried to tag you. Thanks again for the info. Nocturnalnow (talk) 15:27, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Nocturnalnow. I saw this on RAO808's user talk, so perhaps I can help. If you come across something like this again (e.g., a non-free image being used for indentification of a still living individual), you can tag the file with Template:rfu if you feel it's (like in this case) an obvious violation of WP:NFCC#1. If you're not so sure, you can always start a FFD discussion or ask for help at WP:MCQ or WT:NFC. Just for reference, even if this non-free file was considered acceptable per WP:NFCC#1 (see item 1 of WP:NFC#UUI), the fact that it's being used multiple times in the same article is also a problem per WP:NFCC#3a and WP:NFCC#10c. This appears to be the only file ever uploaded by this editor, so most likely it's just a good-faith mistake by someone unfamiliar with WP:IUP and WP:NFC. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:21, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks, especially for the details, its logical. Nocturnalnow (talk) 02:59, 9 February 2018 (UTC)
