Hi Pincrete

Thanks for the message about reverting my reversion on Godot. It's so civilised to get a message of explanation!

To be honest I reverted the edit because I felt that the editor who removed the Laurel and Hardy reference didn't 'get the joke' - but you're right, its relevance to Godot is pretty tenuous. Fair enough. Keep up the good work etc. Gravender (talk) 17:36, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Belated

[edit]

Hello Pincrete, belated greetings and apologies for having not turning up to see off the idiotic sock-puppet accusation by Malagurski's groupie. I presume he was up to something like he and the gang of pals always are (Assume good faith unless tedious experience has taught you better, as they say). I hope his little enterprise got seen off in the manner it deserved.

I'm afraid domestic circumstances became too pressing for me to be able to carry on wasting time on the futilities of coping with people like that and there's no prospect of me being able to return to the fray for a long while. I'm very grateful that you still have the energy and determination not to give up on the endless struggle between good and nonsense. Very best wishes, and thanks for all your efforts. Rest area

[edit]

I have returned the rest area exits These are actually the most common do you prefer no brands be mentioned or would you prefer citations of websites and articles. WHSmith is incredibly well known for being at services stations to buy books and all matter of goods but it is primary a book shop marks and Spencer's is also known for having it's services at these places Sharnadd (talk) 08:35, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sharnadd, why are we plugging these specific companies? Whilst it might be helpful to know the kind of services typically available (though that varies enormously dependent on the kind and level of traffic), how does it add to anyone's knowledge to know who is operating the various outlets? At the least citations should be present, not simply that these companies operate some motorway outlets (which I don't doubt), but at what level. Whilst I don't doubt that toilets, fuel, food, refreshments, 'newsagent type' papers, maps, stationery etc are available at practically all services, few are going to have very extensive Marks & Sparks, but unless M&S are known as 'service area' providers, why are we mentioning them at all? Do readers not know what a coffee shop, general store, or fast food outlet is?Pincrete (talk) 04:34, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not plugging them those are just the ones that are available at the majority of motorway service stations in the UK. When we think service station it is one with many services there are websites that list the most common shops and yes it's those brands Sharnadd (talk) 03:50, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sharnadd if what you say is true those are … the ones that are available at the majority of motorway service stations in the UK, it shouldn't be difficult to find sources that say so explicitly. If, as I suspect (I haven't motorway-ed much in the UK in the last 20 years), these are simply a random selection of names that exist in some services, there's no point in 'singling them out', especially as the article is not solely about major motorway services, but also humbler places on A-roads. We all know what a petrol station, cafe, snack bar, newsagent or coffee shop is after all! It might have made sense to mention any firm like Little Chef, that existed specifically as a 'roadside' food outlet, though that particular one has now folded of course!
I don't see how it is encyclopaedic to name these firms, any more than it would be to say that firms such as Shell or BP run some of the fuel stations.Pincrete (talk) 05:24, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

that part of the description is specifically for motorway services smaller services are on a paragraph lower down. No it isn't random ones its ones which have the greatest number serving motors services anyway I have left them off Sharnadd (talk) 09:20, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
